What did you get in the mail today? (Part 2)

Ohh good to know, I might give them a shot in the HS build then. They do seem like decent quality stabs. I just have so many sets of designer stabs I usually never use any that are included. Although considering I want two setups for this the Neo stabs are probably worth a try on one of them. Thanks for the heads up bud!

Yea I also had no qualms with the Neo Included Stabs.

Ooo silver and red looks so good.
Here’s mine!

Was trying to go for a “classy” look with the blue and gold. Love how the blue looks, wish we could buy just the kernels and weights separately.

And yeah, they stuff so much goodies in that carrying case. I’m excited!

Nice, that color combo you went with does have that classy look to it for sure! Yeah I agree it would be nice of they sold parts separately. Cant wait to see both of ours all built up! I was gonna do the HS build for mine last night but ended up falling asleep early LOL!

Got these Keyreative ABS blanks today. They are much nicer than I expected. Super rich colors and have a creamy look/feel to them. Makes me want to get more colors.
No plans for them yet but they’re just nice to look at. They still have that nice granular texture on them, wonder how quickly they’ll shine.

Horrible Photo day.

  • Mint BCP. POM stem with modified Nylon housings, they are yet another BCP-“Clone”. Unsure of who the Manufacturer is so far, all they said in the listing was “Star Energy” which doesn’t really tell a whole lot. Smooth with little stem wobble and loud sound.
  • Yantai Yellow with some Yantai Pale Yellow mixed in and 2 Omron B3-GS for Mod Keys. I don’t even know why i got these, to be honest. Novelty, maybe?
  • A Set of Lichicx, since Lichicx is closing operations. Valkyrie branded Loki switches. I don’t think i’ve seen their Specs or Materials anywhere yet, but i’d assume they are nearly 4mm Travel with POM stem and PA housing, if i had to guess. Could be a PC top too, not sure. Quite smooth and not a lot of stem wobble. No housing wobble. And a quite deep sound.
  • 2 packs of 25th Anniversary celebration ‘testers’ from KTT. I expected more, to be honest. Some kind of special 25th Anniversary Switches, something limited, something… but not normal Switches you can buy from their Store.
  • A Grey D60 Lite with PC plate. Just because it was so cheap on Xianyu. No idea what to do with that just yet.
  • A random switch sample pack from Xianyu. Just because i wanted to try the Ilovbee and TTC neptune before buying sets of them.

Tested a small European vendor, Khor.

The package arrived quicly.

They are selling genuine Cherry clip in stabs bundled with C3 wires
This Franckenstein combination looks to be popular among some known enthousiasts like Baul and BlackSimon. This is a cheap solution and supposed to work very well as C3 wires are known to be straight as fuck.

Will give it a try, tired of other stabs I used that are expensive and with cables that you have to tune to sound and feel good.

Got my UNIKEYS X BSUN WAVES switches in. Need to take out my switch tester board, throw them in and give them a shot.

Just loose out of the bag they feel pretty good. I am pretty sure I heard some spring crunch though. It says the springs are dry lubed, so I am hoping that will go away over time with use. I know some people on here have messed with dry lube on springs, is that the case?

For being rail bottom out, when pressing the switch in my hand, I barely feel a bottom out. I am wondering if that is just cause there is more surface area to spread the impact? I don’t know. Just feels a little strange right now, but I haven’t tried them in a board yet.

Summary

This is my penultimate purchase in the hobby.
Another macropad will arrive in a couple of days.
And then I will not buy anything else.
I will read, watch the news, videos, and your posts.
I will assemble my keyboards that I already have. Make different assemblies. In 4 years I have so much stuff that I can sit for a year just assembling it all)))
The reason is that this hobby has become not a hobby, but some kind of political confrontation.
At the moment, in my country the following are blocked:
Twitter
Instagram
Soundcloud
YouTube and now Discord.
Of course, you can use a VPN. I have 5 of them.
But they blocked the VPN even earlier. And not only the VPN is blocked, but even the instructions or the rating.

Damn, sorry to hear your govt is going so hard to block stuff. Glad to hear you got yourself a nice stockpile to keep you busy for the time being though! Hopefully all this political craziness gets over with sooner than later!

Any Junji Ito fans here? Got this Tomie key in today from Frumpz Keys! It’s my first cap from them, but definitely won’t be my last! Love Junji Ito’s stories & horror related stuff so I was super happy to win this one!

Too many things to post them all. But I thought this one was interesting and might be insightful for the rest of you.

I ordered several plates from Green Door Geeks. I like that their POM plates have undercuts to ensure the switches click in. These are people who’ve actually used their own products and have refined them!

Anyway, I ordered several POM plates for boards that I own. I also ordered some 60% plates for the plethora of PCBs and cases I have sitting around unbuilt.

But when looking at their store and I saw a new option available called SMA.

Believe it or not, SMA is actually more flexible than POM. I set up a little test using cone feet that I bought 13 years ago. Ha I finally found a use for them.

My janky setup. Both plates flex about the same under their own weight.

But once you add weight to the end…

POM on the right SMA on the left

The other property that’s hard to quantify is acoustics. If you tap the edge of the plates on a hard surface, the SMA definitely feels like it absorbs more of the vibrations and has a lower pitch. It’s such a strange material, it almost feels like a resilient paperboard.

I’ve got a few flexible builds I can put these in to test out but I have to get the PCBs mill maxed first. Can’t throw them in a normal tray mount because the flex won’t make a difference.

No clue what it actually is, but that stuff reminds me of the two-layered material used for engraved signage, which I believe is some kind of acrylic. Spitball guess: Signage Multi-layer Acrylic? :stuck_out_tongue:

that must be it! Yes, it is white with a top layer of black.

Cool way to add detail to a plate for cheap if you can find interesting layer color combos out there.

I found this

Styrene maleic anhydride (SMA) is an excellent compatibilizer for ABS and PMMA

and this

Stearyl methacrylate (SMA) is a water insoluble, low volatile, monofunctional methacrylate monomer with long, linear hydrophobic side chains.

I see those signs are generally referred to as HDPE. But I’ve also seen them listed on Amazon as Modified Acrylic.

So maybe this is a Modified Acrylic that uses SMA monomers?

I suppose I could just ask them

That’s fascinating, I’ve considered having plates made with it before - I’m interested to see if it really is one of those.

Light tube version of MMD Vivian arrived from KPRepublic. I got the 53g version (stock but pretty good and not that light) but will likely swap spring to 58g or 60g for more tighter feel. Its sounds very similar but slightly better defined (due to light tube?) than the previous version which I still enjoy regularly.

Product Page:

UPDATE: 53g stock spring in the light-tube version turned out to be significantly heavier than stock spring of the non-light-tube version I got previously. It’s actually about as heavy as 58g CK Long Triple-stage spring I spring-swapped the previous set with. And it feels more snug too so I will be using these stock for now (see UPDATE2). I will instead reuse my first set to make a light tactile version.

UPDATE2: Geon Baby Blue stem squeaked badly in the original MMD Vivian with stock spring but heavier spring reduced it. New MMD Vivian didn’t squeak so that’s that. New heavier stock spring was fine for tactile stems but was slightly sluggish so tuning may be needed for linears.

Nice let us know how the SMA is! I actually got a SMA plate for my Meridan cut really soon after they first offered it, but it came with a crack in it & they had to refund me. The plate is still useable as the crack is just between switch spots, but I never got around to using it yet.
