10,000 replies, we did it!
Yep. I put my order in on February 19, 2022!
From my testing it looks like black vs white PCB is more about what keycaps I plan to use. Black looks good with dark keycaps and white with light. Hmm. I’m going to start with black. See where this goes
Me too!!!
@pixelpusher It’s a really cool one, though. Post some pics when you build it!
I completely forgot about the Argyle. I remember almost buying one but not pulling the trigger. Still looks beautiful. Excited to see that thing built!
The Orange CSTM80 top is no longer orange! I took advise from @dave and sent my top off to Liquid Print in Texas. He did an amazing job painting and hydro dipping it!
There’s a YouTube video showing the work but he hasn’t published it yet.
I have to get some other keycaps on it, but here’s how it came out
It’s perfect! Exactly what I wanted
Wow, that wood grain effect turned out really nice.
I wish that more makers built boards out of wood. It would be nice to have some more premium options out there, even just wooden boards that are something other than tray mount.
It’s pretty much flawless and super glossy to the touch. Feels so premium. I have a Flico with a Kobo wood grain frame that is done the same way.
I also own a handful of wooden keyboards. 4 tray mount and one o-ring mount from FNCTL.CO
They all have issues. Wood just isn’t a good choice for me. There’s too much change in humidity throughout the year.
This option of hydro graphics is so awesome. I’m thinking I might send him another one someday. Maybe one light and one dark.
That came out soo good.
(I am thinking about doing a yellow and black carbon fiber one in the future.)
Did you see there is a true carbon fiber top on Drop? The only thing about carbon fiber I never realized is that it is conductive. I learned this because I built a carbon fiber sandwich board to use in the winter (thinking it was like plastic and I wouldn’t have to worry about static)
Nope. Shocked the heck out of me.
grats on the wood dip pixel it looks good!
Betcha you won’t hydrodip one of your norbaforces with wood grain to clash with the norba-riser
evil and yet fantastic plans!!
Huh. I had no idea it was conductive either. Makes for some interesting applications:
“Carbon fiber can be used as an additive to asphalt to make electrically conductive asphalt concrete. Using this composite material in the transportation infrastructure, especially for airport pavement, decreases some winter maintenance problems that lead to flight cancellation or delay due to the presence of ice and snow. Passing current through the composite material 3D network of carbon fibers dissipates thermal energy that increases the surface temperature of the asphalt, which is able to melt ice and snow above it.”
Edit: So DK got back to me & as I suspected they could only offer me a full refund for a return as they have no more stock of Gigachad. However they were nice enough to do a little searching & send me the link to NK’s page for Dark RGB which I thought was pretty cool. Not many vendors would expend the extra time to do that, reinforces why I like DK so much. Since I already got GMK Dark RGB I just messaged them back to see if I can just keep the Gigchad set as is. I realize it is KKB’s fault it was packaged incorrectly not DK’s & there is nowhere selling the kits with black legends anywhere right now.
I received the second pack. So I was able to install it in the keyboard for typing testing.
