What switches are you using right now?

Don’t hate but I’m using the omnipoint 2.0 switches

Well, technically the last ones I used were Cherry MX Silent Red with Costar stabilizers. I mean, it could be worse.

HMX Purple Dawn! Still loving these linears after years of nothing but tactiles and clickies.

A lesser known Holy Panda clone - the Outemu Panda.

In the past two days, Box Navy and mid-height Outemu black.

I’m trying out HMX Macchiatos. I wanted to see what the hype was about with HMX, but I had to have full travel switches. They feel really smooth and sound unique. I also like the spring’s key press feel thought it’s far to light for me.

I also finally came around on the 67g Zealios (v1 round 8) that I’ve had since 2017/2018. I think my biggest problem was some really noisy leaves on a couple that were in a build. I’m going to cherry pick what I have for a new build.

I also want to try those and prefer 3.8-4mm travel.

I’ve been typing on a combination of TTC Aces with good and poor factory lube (different boards), Gateron Yellows Pro 3.0, and nicely hand lubed JWICK Blacks provided for trade from a gracious Keebtalk comrade. The JWICK springs are a little too light, but they’re great for a board I often need to type softly on.

If I want to try a board before I fully decide on the build TTC Aces go in it while I test drive. I love their spring, smoothness, and general typing experience. While the stock lube is pretty good on mine (and perfect when I feeling lazy), they really do deserve a proper re-lubing to tweak the sound to my preferences.

Current rotation of the 4 boards within an arm’s reach on my desk:

  • Geon HE Raw switches (50g)
  • SW x HMX Milky Whites
  • KBDFans Rollers
  • Gateron Smoothies

Absolutely love each of these switches for different reason, but can honestly say that I am super happy with this rotation. :+1::+1:

Right now the 4 switches I have been using the most are:

  • KTT Vanilla Ice Creams
  • Gateron Deeppings with Geon 18mm/50g springs
  • Gateron Smoothies
  • KBDfans Roller Switches

I’d recommend all of them as they are all very nice switches that each have something unique to offer. However the Smoothies would be the ones I would recommend above the others, just for the OP price to performance they pack.

Any notes on how these compare with Gateron Magnetic Jades?

Right now on the Sonnet I have Durock Sunflowers with 3204, 62g 17.5mm springs and a 70g 18mm TX in the spacebar. I’m a big fan of T1 variants from Durock, I’ve tried the vast majority of them and the Sunflower remains the smoothest + with the largest bump.

In the Freebird TKL I’ve got Ergo Clears with 60g 18mm TX and a 67g 18mm in the spacebar. Lubed with 203G2.

I was using the Jades in this board (QK65 V2 Classic) prior to putting in the Geon HE RAW switches and, the Jades were an improvement over the stock switches, but in my honest opinion, still not quite what I was looking for.

The RAW switches have a small hole at the bottom of the stem well to allow for some of the bottom out sound to escape. They share the housing composition of the classic PC top and nylon bottom, but sound deeper than the Jades.

In the half dozen HE switches that I have tried across three different HE boards, the RAW switches are the only switches that sound the most like MX switches to me.

I actually ordered some more when Divinikey had them in stock to put into my Zoom75 Akuamarin Edition with the Boog75 module.

I have been really enjoying using HE boards for gaming, but the sound of the switches meant that once the headphones were off and I was switching out to another keyboard to get things done. Not a big deal, but if someone is looking for a good all-around option and they are looking for a really responsive switch for gaming as well, I can’t recommend the Geon HE RAW switches enough.

The fact that they come in 3 different spring weights is also a bonus :+1::+1:

TTC Heart. Lubed once and I’ve been using these switches for almost 3 years and no single issue at all. Love them.

Agreed - I got them for the aesthetic gimmick but ended up loving them in practice.

I swapped switches (and/or keys in some cases) on four of my keyboards recently, and am more happy with all of them than I was before:

Portico68 BL

  • Invokeys Daydreamers → Gateron Smoothies
  • Cerakeys Indigo → DCX BoW
  • POM Plate

I was testing Cerakeys caps and heavy silent switches on this one, but wasn’t feeling it. Switching to something more tried-and-true makes me happy for my daily driver.

Original Portico

  • Ajazz Diced Kiwis → TKC Blackberries
  • DCX Hyperfuse → HSA Hyperfuse
  • POM Plate → Birchwood Ply Plate

When I’ve got old stabs I don’t feel like re-tuning, I throw some clickies in to kick the can down the road a bit. In this case, I think the Blackberries pair well with the wooden plate and tall-ish HSA caps, making for a very crispy experience in the light polycarb case.

Bauer Lite Atomic

  • Gateron Jupiter Bananas → Moyu Betty V2s
  • CYL Monokai Material
  • Stock gloss polycarb plate

Third time’s a charm. I knew I wanted snappy, index-y switches in this GameBoy Color themed build, and after trying CIY Asuras and then Gateron Jupiter Bananas, I finally settled on my old favorite Moyu Studio Betty V2s, made by Haimu.

Smoothies are my go-to no-effort linear, and now I think Betties have my equivalent spot for snappy tactiles.

KBD67 v3

  • Durock Black Lotuses
  • [nothing] → Cerakeys Indigo
  • Purple polycarb plate

I’d had Voir on this and it looked amazing, but that set lives on my burgundy Neo65 now. I’d been trying to find the right thing to pair with the indigo / navy ceramic caps, and I think the dark silver of this case is just right. Makes me think of the actual Navy.

Added bonus, the purple switches and plate tie-in with the dark blue for blueberry vibes. It sounds and feels nice, too - but the spacebar is going to need different stabs and likely a more heavy spring underneath if I want to type fast with it.

I’m currently using Gateron Quinns on my two main boards (at home and work).

I was using Outemu Pandas for quite a while (for about half a year on my main work board). They’re pretty alright, I think, except that the wobble was a bit much.

Testing some KTT Macaron Orange right now…

They are loud in a stock M87 Pro. But once dampened with sorbothane, they take on a much lower pitch…

I should also give a shout out to HMX switches as they are very good options also IMO. I have a bunch of their variants & have tried them in numerous boards at this point, there just isn’t a board with them in it in my rotation ATM. I do have HMX Clouds in my Aaru TKL & HMX EVAs in my macropad RN, but I haven’t been using the Aaru lately & it’s pretty hard to get the feel for a switch in a macro pad.

Have you found these still for sale anywhere? I bought a set on Vala a while back, but haven’t seen them in stock anywhere else since then.

I haven’t, which is a real shame - I’d put these in a few more of my boards if they were easy to get.
