What did you order or think about ordering?

They are fairly thin. Same thickness as DSA and DCS. It’s thin but not to the point that they flex when you squeeze them. Sound profile is closer to DCS than DSA.

Out of curiosity, do y’all have access to Cherry profile 1.25u keys for the Caplock/Enter row? They’re useful to make non-ortho 40% work with Cherry.

Thanks for clarifying this for me. I think I’ll pass on these and save some money for once.

sure thing! I think these caps are best for lighter switches. Linear, tactile, and clicky switches with lighter springs all benefit from thinner caps, from what I’ve tried.

Think light and crisp. It’s like driving a car in sport mode that 's more tuned for racing, you feel the tightness of the suspension and it’s like there is less between you and the road.

Thick caps on a medium to heavy switch is more like a luxury sedan.

Both are very nice and there is room between the two for nuance as well.

I found that some of the clacky switches I have, like MMD Vivian, sounds better with ePBT keycaps than thicker ones like XMI keycaps so I think PBS should also work well with them.

If you start with 40% template the 1.25u R3 key is there among all the rest for staggered 40% layout.
PS: I’ve also shared my 40% design in the first comment.

Yeah, I can make it work by buying two base kits, but I have somewhat unusual requirements that depend on 40s kitting, but are very much not 40s.

Love the Class 80 boards, I’ve been looking at an NCR hotswap kit from YMDK:

Anyone have experience with this or a similar kit?

I built one of these a while back. It was a really fun project, especially for the price. Some simple mods can really make the thing shine too - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=14-xUZFQcHo&pp=ygUMaW8gc2FtIG5jcjgw

Ultimately I sold it to another user just cause I enjoyed a different plastic board more that become my “to and from” the office carry.

I own one. Love it. Sounds hollow and plasticky, which I really like about it.

Here’s a long thread:

Calling all green lovers:

Almost ordered, but then again… no more preorders for me.

Great colors for CXA - I look forward to seeing it on some builds.

This is the best analogy I’ve heard regarding the relationship between switch weight and caps. Ironically, though I like nimble cars, I tend to prefer the typing feel of heavy tactiles and chonky PBT caps.

Ordered some HMX Snow Crash switches (thx @pixelpusher) bc I do enjoy snug feel and full key travel. Expecting them to sound similar to Vertex V1 but possibly even more snug feel if that’s even possible. Pricing is great too.

I ordered a little keyboard that connects to a raspberry pi as a “shield.” In a twist from my looking for qmk audio support, this is actually a synthesizer.

I just saw in their discord that they’re halting sales of the snow crash switch. People complained about the bottom out sound. Manufacturer overlubed bottom housing and they weren’t supposed to. They’re making a new batch with only dry lube on springs. You can opt for a refund or wait and get a new batch free.

I will probably try cleaning them. Was probably going to spring swap anyway.

Finally caved & bought one.

Darn it. I’m just going to wait the new batch if they haven’t shipped my order yet.

Thanks for the tip, buddy.

Keebfront is having a 25% off sale. Grabbed a 110 batch of their BigWig switches (HDPE tops, PBT bottoms, POM stems) cause I’ve been really curious how PBT will work out as a switch housing.
Edit: My wallet hates me today but…

FTRO with the Alert kit is just right up my alley!

You’ll have to let us know what you think of those switches! Seems like something I would like. Just need to find out how stable they are.
