I’m more fond of this design trend than I ever was of actual VHS tapes :vhs:

I’m really looking forward to it. I tend to stay on the budget side for, well, everything, so this was a nice surprise to find.

Yup! As I understand it, back when sculpt largely came from curved plates, SA started out as a uniform profile, and then was retooled as the market changed. I tend to make DIY no-stabilizer boards that, despite having a lot of keys, rely on keycaps normally used for little 40% boards (assuming they exist at all), e.g. 1.75u Enter, 1.25u Caps Lock, etc. As I’ve learned, I’ve tried to tone down just HOW weird my needs are, but it’s still a challenge to find proper kitting at a low price, and unsculpted is always easier.
All this does mean I learned how to do a shallow (I assume) but passable dye sub on my laser engraver.

Even fifty bucks is (by a little bit) a new high price for me on a single board’s worth of keycaps, LOL. I plow my time into research and builds, and my money into tools and raw supplies.

Oh wow, love T-120 and the Pause version as well. May need to investigate further.

I know, I love these too - I can’t decide which one to get…

(edit added “'t” - I cannot decide lol)

Finally found a way to use 40% - with custom made keycaps (with your own sub-legends):
Design here and final product here (after just a week!)

I’m already planning my second order from yuzu.
My first kit arrived about a week ago, and I am quite pleased with the result.
Moaaar sublegends

With the Yuzu custom keycaps, how to get an ISO enter and 2u shift?

You have to go into the Layout Options tab after you’ve chosen a board size, and there are tickboxes in there to pick those.

Thanks, I found ISO enter and other options, but I still couldn’t find any way to get a 2u shift.

Ah, I misunderstood, I was thinking 1.25u shift. I put in a request for split numpad + that wasn’t an option originally, and they got that added pretty fast. If they don’t have 2u shift, I bet they’d be willing to add it if you put in a request.

If you re-legend a numpad zero, that would do the same thing, but potentially a lot of extra cost, and of course it’s also a problem if you actually need the 2u zero, LOL.

Anybody know how accommodating they are for special orders to add a cap or two?

Just send them an email and ask them, they are very helpful.
I did that when I needed an extra R4 2u cap.

Indeed they are! They quickly added a new keyboard option to support a 64-key layout!

However, it doesn’t yet seem to be shown on their main page, and only available via this link for now:

Edit: in the email, they indicated that they would like to add this as a public option, but they didn’t know what to call it, and asked me to provide a suggestion. Is there a common name for this layout? “64-key”, “60% with arrows”, or something else?

Any of those could work fine. I think it was first popularized in the Filco Minila, so 60% or 65% Minila maybe? If they’re concerned about trademarks, maybe 65% Minimal Layout? As long as they have the picture there, it should be fine.

I’ve always called it a 64-key or Minila layout. That’s great news!

hey! you can ask in the chatbox, I am the guy who responds to support request!
we are willing to accomodate for many layouts as long as it is possible with our production process. that’s the only reason we don’t allow anyone to create their own sets, is that we can’t do just any layout, but usually adding a single key is fine, it’s some very specific layouts that we can’t do

Very cool of you guys being so responsive & accommodating. Although I do find it odd you don’t allow people to pick whatever keys they would want beyond one specific layout with limited add ons available. If you got the molds for the keys why not just let people pick keys that will allow them to cover all the boards in their collection? I think you would sell a bunch more that way TBH. As it stands I think it’s a cool ideal, but wouldn’t bother ordering a set myself unless I can kit it out like a normal base kit at the very least. If that was possible then I more than likely would get at least one set to check them out. Just some food for thought for you guys at Keyrative.

Do you have other DSS sets? I was thinking about picking up DSS Honeywell but reviews seem very mixed with a number of people commenting on how thin these caps were, but I haven’t seen any actual measurements on the cap thickness.
