What did you order or think about ordering?

Nice, I’m so tempted to grab one myself! Can’t wait to see how you build yours!

For US buyers the price is practically the same domestically in dollars and less when you factor in shipping.

DISREGARD they already sold out. That was fast.

The price for DSS Handwork is stunningly low. Aproximately $62 USD for an entire SP double shot set.

that’s a really good price. I’m guessing there are a lot of extras and judging from past runs (GMK and SA) they aren’t selling very well. I love the GMK set. I know it’s a meme and all, but I really like bright colors sometimes. It’s fun.

Yeah Hand Work is a fun colourway, but why are the `~ =+ -_ keys colored like alphas instead of like punctuation??!

They just always were in handarbeit. So they copied tradition.

What was your impression of the Brutal60? CannonKeys has them marked down to $105.

I don’t think the brutal60 is anything special over any other isolation mount board. But for that price, it’s a good deal. The aesthetic is unique and should be the main appeal, IMO. If you get one I highly recommend a force break mod between the top and bottom. The top has a tendency to ring like a percussion triangle when you tap it.

My Brutal60 is top-mounted with O-ring and force-breaks applied generously.

It’s great if you’re into switch sound. I liked how Brutal60 makes switch sound more noticeable and roomy. Switches that sounded wimpy in other cases sounds better in this case. Best switches to use in the case are low-pitched thocky but muted switches like Oil Kings. Sound of loud clacky switches in this case may be too much for most folks.

And the price drop is just makes that sweeter. The only reason I didn’t order it because they’re out of WK version.

I’ve never felt so annoyed by this hobby, or wanted to quit so badly. Today has been a wild goose chase of research and purchases that was all for nothing.

It started out by trying to find a case to match SA Fledgling, which ships soon. I found a bright pink Kbd67 Lite R4 case on super-duper clearance, and a plate to go with it, also on super-duper clearance. Great! Ordered.

The PCB for it is out of stock everywhere, but no worries; I can handwire (I’m still too new at PCB design to know how to properly cram all the components into such a small space.) So I ordered a dev board, diodes, resistors, wire, and even commissioned a 6.25u Amoeba PCB from JLCPCB for the spacebar, so the stabs have something to mount to. Then I had to make my own firmware. Spent a while compiling that for QMK and Vial.

By chance later in the evening, I accidentally came across a disclaimer, to the effect that without the silicone plate dampener, the Kbd67 Lite plate won’t mount in the case. The seemingly optional dampener is a critical, required component, and there’s no warnings about this anywhere. And the part is sold out all over the planet. (And that’s assuming it will even stay in place without a PCB to sandwich it against, and my build won’t have one.) Spent hours trying to track one down, with no luck.

Now I have about $100 of useless components I can’t cancel or return, a bitter hatred of Kbdfans, and still nowhere to put my Fledgling caps. I’m thinking of the carbon wasted to ship all these parts here, that are all so obsolete without the dampener, that I won’t even be able to give them away.

Kind of want to just cash out and find something new to do with my life.

I agree that this hobby is not for you.

Find something else that’ll makes you happy and don’t let stuff you already ordered stop you.

Peace

My grandma called these costly mistakes in life “tuition fee.”

That state of mind helped me a lot, later on.

Surely you can find the parts you’re looking for with time and patience. Post here or r/mm and hope that you can get they you need?

I think it comes down to seeing obstacles as challenges or problems. While I’m drawn to challenges because I enjoy solving them (journey) as much as the end product (destination), I also know many people don’t and just want the custom keyboard the way the like.

First timers should definitely ask before buying because these obstacles are usually not visible until you’re neck deep. If that’s too much trouble, I’d recommend getting boards like Mode Envoy or QK60/65/80. Quality is ridiculously good for the price and build is easy even for beginners.

That is definitely frustrating, but like others have said either put out some WTB posts on the different MKB marketplaces or wait till you get the case & plate then see if you can come up with a creative fix not requiring the silicone dampener. However I do agree with what @donpark said,

If you’re the former type of person you’ll figure a way out to use the parts, if you’re the latter type then I would definitely stick buying full kits from now on. Hodge podging parts together to get what they want can be great fun for some, but also a waking nightmare to others.

Been thinking about buying mx reds from mechmarket. The switches came from Corsair boards so probably retooled - which I really like but I already have stocks of mx blacks and simply not enough boards to build lol

I also don’t want all my boards to have cherry switches, gotta have variety! Anyone else have this problem?

I’ve gotten into having too many linear builds, but the variety of the linear switches used is pretty wide. If the reds are cheap enough I don’t see any problem in grabbing them, however if you have a ton of MX blacks on hand a simple spring swap will make them MX reds for all intents & purposes.

looking hard at that type-k, but that’s a lot of cash.

Same here. I’m slightly leaning against it just because there’s just so many other expenses I currently have, it seems irresponsible haha. At the same time I worry I’ll regret not grabbing one too. Basically still 50/50 on it…got a week to decide.
