I hastily tried all of them, two at a time, on a board. Each sounded very good for the price. But all except three sounded very similar to Gateron Pro Ultra Glory Red. I’ll need to try them in a richer sounding board to bring out their sound to the fullest.
And they all had wimpy springs. But then its unfair for a habitual spring-swapper like me to complain about stock switch spring quality.
Oh, wow. I’m surprised to hear about the damage, I found their packaging a bit exaggerated.
And the assembly is very easy now, not just compared to the original R1 but in general too. Maybe I liked the color of the R1 raw back piece better, but the R2 beats the original one in everything else.
Turns out 60g version was closer to the benchmark: Gateron Pro Ultra Glory Red spring, feel of which is yummy enough to me to look for an alternate source.
Not an exact match though. Geon springs are sparser than the target so maybe the remaining difference is in more tightly wound coil.
Im always on the lookout for switches with all black housing.
However, Im a bit bummed with these. I love the v2 silent Lucy. I’d score them a 9.75/10 for a silent switch.
These new recolors are using different molds. I’m not sure about the housing but the stem is visibly different (shorter stem pole).
These just don’t have the pop of the v2s.
Also, they have about the lightest spring I’ve ever tried. Second only to a Gateron clear. These bottom out at 38g.
I tried spring swapping with the v2s but they just don’t have that je ne sais quoi
I might be wrong on this but from what I understand these aren’t really ‘Lucys’. They’re not the same designer as the original. There was the original Lucy and now there is a v2 both with the same colours (picture attached).
There are other switches mistakenly being sold as Lucys in other colour schemes but by other designers. They are still Lichicx so should be pretty decent.
Yeah it’s not clear what’s what. The v1 and v2 appear to be the same but with slight mold changes. RNDKB says v3 is the black hosing. The ones with the light diffuser are v4. But some AliExpress sellers have them listed as v2 (and even show 1/2 the photos with and 1/2 without the new diffuser). I’d love to get another batch of what I got back in winter but I don’t trust any of the vendors with mixed photos. And the reputable vendors are all sold out.
Took a bit of a break from the hobby but I had some store credit from Best Buy burning a hole in my pocket and decided to pull the trigger on one of the 8bitdo boards.
My initial impression is it sounds really nice and solid out of the box if you like clicky builds. The plastic feels solid. AFAIK there’s no sound dampening material and it comes with an aluminum plate.
The caps it comes with are slightly higher than standard cherry profile and are a nice thick dyesub PBT.
The novely A and B buttons went to my wife as a fidget toy and I swapped the BOX whites for BOX navy, as well as putting my cerakey caps on it, which add both a solid amount of weight and a thocky sound typing profile.
My replacement set of DCX x Booper Deep Space came in from Dorp. I didn’t notice it till I went to use the set, but the 7u spacebar that came in the base had a hairline crack on the underside.
So I had to return the base for a fresh one. To their credit they did replace it no questions asked, they paid for the shipping costs, & sent out the new set the day I got the busted one on it’s way back to them. So I was happy with the return/replacement service (first time I had to do so since Corsair bought them). However the one weird thing is they have a policy of not replacing single keys. If you get a set with a wonky key you have to send the whole thing back & they replace it with a fresh set. Which would make some sense if it was a GB set from GMK, SP, CRP/Hammer, DMK, etc. Although with their own keycaps is a head scratcher to me. One returned set could fix many issues & it would be much cheaper for them to just send out one key in a small package.
Yeah, it seems like it would make sense to get a few dozen (hundred?) extra sets pressed but not packaged so they could just send out replacement caps to customers when needed. Especially with spacebars.
A Keyboard module from CSSC, which, as far as i understand, is “China State Shipbuilding Corporation” who builds Container Ships but also has military Contracts for the Government there, including surveillance submarine drones.
The switches are a mystery to me. They are near identical to real Cherry, but with no nameplate. I’m almost tempted to message Cherry and ask if they are legit Cherry switches.
I’m not sure if they would be “Aristotle” either, because they don’t match the ones i have. Not even my, what i call, Yantai Yellows (which i think are falsely labeled as Aristotle Yellow sometimes) which i thought would be identical, but they are not.
Aifei Emerald keycaps. Surprisingly good high quality for the price. Kitting doesn’t work for me but I only bought it for the space bar…
Need your opinions
I think these are a pretty close match and could work, JTK Emerald and Aifei Emerald, but I’m not sure.
^Otherwise I was thinking of using the 2.75u shift for the space bar, but the legend really throws me off for some reason. Is it just me?
I just bought GMK Hammerhead Light off MM but I don’t believe that ever had a light set of split bars–I may have to resort to the 2.75u shift. Having second thoughts.
I would def. go with the spacebar, even it the color is slight off it’s better than the shift imho. Also gone that way with MT3 WoB on my Praxis, as there seems to be no black spacebar kit for MT3 I used the Skiidata. More anthracite than black, but still works out great.
And my second Rule60v2 arrived today too. I forgot how filthy and rough this thing is–literally needs a soap bath and the steel weight is sharp, greasy, and oxidized lol.
Got GMK Griseann 2 & the macro kit for it in today. Then yesterday I got a really cool artisan in from Poochie Dingo & some stickers from Diego (Lightning XI).
Yes, they’re decent. Just a bit wobbly and weird noises like most JWKs. I do enjoy the medium-heavy spring. Nice and cushy. And they are certainly smooth.
