What did you get in the mail today? (Part 2)

That stinks, but at least nothing was damaged! Figure it’s easier to get something they forgot to ship sent out you again than have to go through the mess of filing insurance for shipping damage.

alas… IIRC these are both scratchy and wobbly - is that so with your set, @Reimu64?

Wouldn’t say they’re wobbly, the amount of wobble is close enough to an MX Red. But yep, they’re super scratchy and not extra stable at all lol

One dotted, very faintly pale green hirose friend to add to the collection.

Nice find! What are the rest Hirose clears?

The rest of the board is clears as well as one brown that has its entire keycap stem mount sheered off. You win some, you lose some.

I was on a short holiday and this eclectic mix was awaiting me on return:

Akko’s MU01 Mountain Seclusion (US / EU) is a real beauty made from walnut – with some additional wax in the box? Quite unusual prop when it comes to the keyboard hobby. Anyway, even my muggle family members and coworkers can’t resist this gorgeous board. Review next week.

The Ergohaven K:03 is a 3D printed split. I use their unibody Planeta at home, the layout is almost the same, so transitioning was easy-peasy. Review maybe tomorrow. Review here.

And the jaw-dropping Mantis v0.3 with it’s hexagonal grid and caps. Big shout out to Felix who built and sent this to me as a gift. The layout makes a lot of sense and the angle is very close to my own unibody designs. I still have a lot of work to do to recreate my custom keymap with fewer keys than usual.

Got my set of JCS Arabic in today from Sandkeys! I went with orange sublegends for my set. Also I’ve had them for a few days but forgot to post them, I got 2 beige (SP stock color WW matches DCS 9009) 10u DCS spacebars from Sneakbox. I wanted black 10us too, but they were sold out by the time I ordered mine.

Two days since I received the parcel. But for two full days, I made videos for YouTube.
Meanwhile the temperature in the room was)

ZUOCE LITCHI MILK SWITCH

  • Tactile switch
  • POM stem
  • Modified POM top housing
  • Nylon bottom housing
  • 22mm 2-stage spring
  • Operating force 40+/-5gf
  • Bottom force 50+/-5gf
  • Pre-travel 1.5+/-0.4mm
  • Total travel 3.2+/-0.3mm
Summary

Not a bad switch.
Short move. easy.
The sound is typical tactile.
But some of mine make a sound - tsk-tsk.
I would like everything to be ok out of the box.
Looks like it needs to be re-lubricated. Hope.

Mage Lantopa Linear Switches

Top Housing Material: PC
Bottom Housing Material: P4
Stem Material: LY
Pre-travel: 2.00±0.5mm
Operating force: 40±5gf
Actuation force: 32gf Min
Total travel: 4.00±0.5mm
Durability: 50 million times
Spring length: L=20mm
Factory lubed: Yes

Summary

But I liked these ones.
They still have a “4mm” pressing stroke.
A rarity now. But they are very light, 40 grams.
Maybe that’s why they came from a box with factory lubricant,
on any keycaps, they sound good. And good pressure.

I’ll write down the typing. I will assemble it on an aluminum plate. I’ll probably update the post.

We had our local meetup (Pittsburgh, PA) yesterday & it was an absolute blast! The always awesome @mgsickler & the switch man himself @ThereminGoat attended (was so cool to finally meet you guys & geek out over our hobby with you in person!). They both brought some really cool stuff to show (Goat’s switch collection is insane!) & they also both hosted some giveaways for the attendees. I ended up winning Goat’s giveaway which is the really cool artisan print done by the super talented Bustorblador! It was actually kinda funny cause I was swooning over this print as soon as I saw it & took my artisan collection to the meetup! Huge thanks Theremingoat! :metal:

Then I also got my batch of KBDfans Roller Linear switches in yesterday too & these things are no joke! Super smooth, super stable, & actually pretty good sounding stock! I’m half curious as to what they would be like with some lube even though they definitely do not need any. Although I’m kinda scared to even try opening one of these up as I’ve heard they are a nightmare to put back together properly. Thinking I might use these for the full POM plate build in my XOX70, will definitely report back once I get them in a board!

Not keyboard related, but got some AriZona x Fallout branded Green Tea / Energy Drinks.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CWK9VD7D

Saw it pop up on Facebook, had to try them and get a can to add to the Fallout stuff I have. So far tried the Apple and Peach ones, definitely prefer the Apple one more. Have yet to try the Pomegranate flavor.

Another TKL came in the mail. Very uncharacteristic for me, but I do love some C64 nostalgia.

love it. I prefer SA to the AFSA which it looks like here, but they are both nice. What do you think of the board?

The included joystick and power buttons are cute, but the power buttons are laughably large to the extent that they take up too much desk space. I guess that is part of the “novelty.”

This one is only available with clicky switches (it is hot swap though). The included switches are fairly muted compared to a Cherry Blue. The stabilizers are very smooth from the factory.

The spacebar sounds hollow and needs some spacebar foam.

It is very stiff, but I don’t think it has a steel plate it would feel heavier. It is lightweight.

The molding work is excellent and the finish is good all around - the biggest nit to pick is the somewhat fuzzy red dye sub work around the volume and bluetooth control knobs in the upper left.

It has a very pleasant typing angle and feel. In fact I can type comparatively fast on it out of the box.

Overall would definitely recommend. Might like it even more if I muster the energy to swap out the switches.

Very true to the Commodore 64 - the beige looks very pale and almost gray in certain lighting. This is very consistent with the original Commodore bread bin. Take the lighting away and it looks very brown/beige.

Does the joystick work as a mouse by any chance?

Geon springs (22mm 57.5g 3-stage) from Mekibo.

Feels lighter than 57.5g, closer to 55g. Initially couldn’t distinguish it from 53g MM 3-stage springs though but did feel heavier over time in use.

Little or no ping and feels more consistent in weight than other springs. I like these.

Got 6 more keyboard storage cases and 90 roller switches. These switches feel cool. Have to get them in a board.

Never thought I would actually have cases for most of my keyboards, but I’m getting close. I always buy them used or on sale. It’s crazy how cheap you can get stuff if you just wait.

Now, I just need to find a solution for larger keyboards. hmm…

Nice, I’m slowly doing the same thing! Everytime cases are on sale & I have the extra cash I’ll grab a couple at least. Vintage keebs are still an issue though, hard enough to find hard cases for modern full size KBs let alone some of the beasts from the past!

Big delivery from Maison of the West today! Love this dude’s work & he even does ALPS & Topre artisans! The light purp This Guise on the bottom left is ALPS & the silverish This Guise on the bottom right is Topre. So good!
