What did you get in the mail today? (Part 2)

Interesting.

Wouldn’t recommend it.
It has a high-pitched, short sound with a light tapping sound. On the video typing from above you can hear it very well at the end.

A lot of HMX’s Nylon blends have different percentages of fiberglass added to them. It’s one of the biggest reasons a lot of thier switches are loud & clacky IMO.

I won’t load you with a lot of photos as usual.
I’ll just show you what I received in the mail this week.
There are so many parcels because they were delayed in sorting. And they all came on the same day. Although I ordered from different stores, different delivery and different days.

POSEIDON LINEAR SWITCH

So, as usual, I uploaded all the photos to Instagram.
And I made short videos of shorts on YouTube.

So, I have heard both positive and negative things about the wax lube method for alps, but since these were unlubed NOS switches that were never even soldered to a PCB, I wanted to try to keep them as stock as possible, but just eliminate the “chorus of ping” that these whites are apparently known for.

I have played around before with PTFE powder and paraffin oil to try to come up with something that spreads easier that RO-59 on plastic, and plays lice with pure PTFE powder. I decided to add just enough paraffin oil to PTFE to create a bit of a slurry and then apply that to just the springs, as GPL105 just seemed too thin, and some of the lubes like GS1, 3203, and even GPL205g0 mixed with 105 seemed to still add some “squish” no matter how lightly I applied it to just the springs.

The paraffin and PTFE powder seemed to do the trick, as it nullified the ping, while still keeping the sound of the switch clean and true to the stock sound. As the paraffin evaporates, it will just leave the PTFE powder, which will also help smooth out the switch as it is used.

Having never really felt an Alps board before, I feel like the light tactility and sound are what most people are chasing, and I think that I am pretty close with what I have here.

Will go back through the batch in a week or so just to see if they are still ping free.

I may also try the same lube on the stems/rails, but as of right now, the amount of scratch isn’t even close to being annoying.

Got my ErgoDox EZ and SA carbon keycaps in and setup and……. I don’t think I like it. Back to the kinesis.

BBox60 and SLK Dessau today. I didn’t realize the BBox is a kit and the parts come on sprues. Looks fun

Yeah! The Bbox is one of my favorite kits because of the model-building vibe, and I also love its capacity for loud, deep sound. I paired mine with some particularly “thud”-y dampened switches and am quite fond of the sound, even with the cheap GK61 sandwich in the middle:

Sounds great! I’m looking forward to trying different builds with it.

this shrinkwrap packaging comes direclty out of SP factory. IIRC it’s only from H2 2023 that newly produced sets got this shrinkwrap. all the previous sets would have came out of the factory in bags and so Drop just put those bags into a bigger box based on the order

are they extra stable? Would it be worth trying to polish them?

Promised picture of SLK Dessau mounted on my daily driver (albeit a week late)

It’s hard to get a feel for in the overhead shots how low-profile this set is (one of its stated design goals)

have you said before what you think of the type feel? Do you like the way they feel?

Ooof, I hope the board & parts aren’t damaged!

I definitely enjoy the aesthetics more than the typing feel. The smaller key surfaces seem to invite more errors and missed presses.

Well, this blow fell on the box inside which was a keyboard case, and inside was only the keyboard housing. The impact simply ruined the appearance of the box.
All boards are in a separate box where everything is fine.

But what I don’t have is 340 grams of weight, which is purchased separately. And I bought it. But he’s not there(((((((( :sob: :sob: :sob:
