Interesting Finds & Heads-Ups

How did I not know about this site… definitely my kind of shop. I’m a kid in a candy store! Thanks for sharing.

Came across XVX Profile keycaps, looks familiar but I can’t place my finger on it.

No idea if the store is trustworthy.

I don’t understand what those vertical dotted lines are supposed to communicate to me lol

They are most certainly this profile, which is not MDA despite what they are labeled as:

I’m pretty sure I have a set of these in a different color theme… like really different…

Think “chunky guacamole” and you’ve got the look. Actually - here’s a photo from when they came in the mail:

@rpiguy9907 I believe you’re right about that; the guac set was also sold as “MDA” on KeebMonkey.

The profile itself seems pretty good; kind of between XDA and MDA with plenty of rounding. If chicklet keys are too flat but Cherry keys are too sculpted - well maybe these will hit your sweet spot.

Reminds me of the URSA profile keycaps, but lower and rounder.

They do have a very similar look to URSA with the rounding; the dish is really shallow on these, though - that’s what they have in common with MDA. Easier to feel your way around than flat keys, but I do find it harder to be fast and accurate with them compared to either Cherry or MT3, both of which have deeper scooping than these do.

Mmmm might have to buy some frog switches…

Ah yes, a clearance sale with a different label, lol.

I chuckle because it’s a 67-key with “68” in its name (for reasons I may never know), but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t seriously considering picking up one of these. I’m lukewarm on TKC, but I use my Portico more than any other single keyboard and I wouldn’t mind at all having a more premium version. And that pink is pretty hot, yo

Dodging the “e” word, the keebs coming out of the middle-market are ever-closer to my personal ideal. What’s out there now is already better than I ever expected, so at this point it’s just kind of fun to watch what will come next - I like seeing one or two things at a time being added to the repertoire of more affordable keebs. The middle-market has more or less fully integrated thoughtful mounting styles pioneered by high-end customs; the frontier I see them sailing now is that of aesthetic refinement.

The existing Portico and KBD67L are already basically everything I’d ask for in a keeb, and in both cases it’s only little nit-picks or wouldn’t-that-be-nice sort of stuff I’d want to add - though I’m pretty sure that’s what both TKC and KBDfans are doing.

So close…

Example / speculation; what this keeb has on the KBD67 v3, for example, is the lack of a visible seam. A given on high-end customs, but usually a compromise for less expensive sandwich-gasket keebs. However - the current KBD67 iteration is in its last run, and I think the Tiger is a taste of what’s to come from them - I’d be very surprised if a 65% version of the Tiger (KBD67 v4? Liger? Housecat?) doesn’t come out later this year. Specific to this discussion: I’d be surprised if the next keeb to replace the current KBD67 Lite / v3 has visible seams - literally my only small complaint with the v3. I’m fully expecting it to be a 67-key version of the Tiger.

it’s tucked up under thar!

Anywho - say all that to say, I see this curiously-named specimen as another marked stepping-stone towards middle-market perfection, unreachable as that ideal may be.

I see this and wonder if blind people ever tried putting their fingers on the keyboard and wonder why it has the initals for California/Canada (CA) on the homing key. or 3A lol

Interesting choice to go with the triple dot on the homing key. You’d think one dot or dash has worked for dozens of years would continue working just fine

These new Porticos… I love it! Digging this design. They should really show us some pics of the bottom tho

edit: here’s the back per the guys on the TKC discord:

Came across a store selling knockoff or mockups of switch parts on Aliexpress, no idea if the store is legit, or about the quality, but it is intriguing.

KBDFans having great clearance sales, $5 for Poker style plastic case, and $10 for a 60% plate, with a $30 solder PCB which people can get for a better price at a sale date it’s a great start kit.

Interesting to see a 1$ price in the name but having being 11.99…

Says $1 for 10 random TTC switches, so I’m guessing you’re getting 120? Really great deal if it’s a dime for a switch.

He will give u 1$ if u send him 10 random TTC, right? :smirk:

Use code: Ipopularttc when you check out in order to get 1$ for 10PCS TTC Random Switches!

Seems like this deal is only for 1 pack, if you’ll add couple of packs the discount will only apply to one pack, the rest will be full price.
