Interesting Finds & Heads-Ups

Apparently NuPhy is working on low profile hall effect switches? Only available as part of a pre-order keyboard currently: https://nuphy.com/collections/he-keyboards/products/nuphy-air60-he-magnetic-switch-gaming-keyboard

Yo… It’s a 4.0mm travel smoothie! Man, I wish they would make some of these POM switches in black.

Different spring. Slightly heavier (45g) 15mm spring vs the smoothie (40g) 22mm

Oh, and I just realized it’s a new mold, right? Unlike the smoothie or sea salt smoothie, there is no led diffuser.

They could be the Molds of the Gateron Grape Smoothie switches.

Oh! It’s literally QK! I didn’t realize that from the phrasing on DK store page.

So what’s the difference…designer?… oh, so it’s like a QK/Neo prebuilt. Okay! Def would be interested in some impressions.

CannonKeys is lowering MOQ for NicePBT to 100 so they can run more niche sets with different designers, albeit at a bit higher price. They plan to run some as group buys, which I think makes sense in that situation. Their existing offering will not be affected. It’s just another option.

Forgot I took some screenshots of the new Classic TKL colors coming out for round 2

No WKL tops yet.

New colors in addition to the beige and black for this round

Clear, but with gray accents instead of yellow this time:

Blue. Based on Rivian blue:

Gray. Again automotive inspiration (I think he said Audi?)

And a terracotta red-orange.

Of note: the back rubber piece is a fun accent color. Bright teal on the blue and almost chartreuse on the gray.

Badges have a new white text (instead of red) on silver (or black depending on case)

Thanks very much for the screenshots pixel.

The Audi color is probably Nardo Gray, which is apparently the first mainstream modern appearance of non-metallic gray in automobiles. (Thanks youtube algorithm trivia fairy)

I like all of those new colors - gonna be a tough choice between all of them! Probably blue because I have a handful of blue / blue-leaning sets that need a place to hang out, but I love the gray too, and that orange is fun; I bet any given version of Skiidata would look amazing on it.

That orange is hot! Huh kind of reminds me of the old boards that TKC did with 1800 layout and automotive paint. I like it! Hopefully they keep up with the fun colors (and not make them one time rounds :smiling_face_with_tear:).

Yep! They actually had Nardo gray as one of their first offerings for the TKC-1800. I sure miss the old TKC days

Oh shit. I typed that and then opened Instagram. TKC closing shop.

Bought a PC Molly for $75

Dang another one bites the dust, let alone a fairly OG player in the game.

This one probably deserves it for better or worse.

Yea didn’t want to say it, but definitely was a longggg fall in the waiting seeing the direction TKC was going in with their store and products.

Well, so did I. Really hope this was a good decision. :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

Same - Tangies left a lasting mark, and Kiwis are still my favorite switch to look at. I actually sent them a stained-glass sun-catcher of the Tangerine switch a couple years ago.

I skipped the M0lly mostly because of my habit of resting my hands on cases; I hear that’s not the best for frosted polycarb. I did pick up another Portico68 BL, though. It’s been surpassed in terms of value, but I still see it as the 65% distilled into just about its purest form. Simple, no frills, good, nice to look at - I’d have probably gotten two if one of the colors hadn’t been sold out. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m not specifically trying to buy this colorway, gorgeous as it is - but I love the idea of running them in both CYL and MTNU at the same time - I’d be happy to see more of that.

Yea running both CYL and MTNU simultaneously was a great idea, hopefully they do it more.

Thinking about ordering TKC’s switch pack with Blackberries. Do you still think they’re worth it?

Yeah these are pretty decent too! I grabbed some really soon after CK released them (think I posted about them here?). They’re not factory lubed so they don’t impress much out of the box (pretty much on par with regular Gat switches + the sound of an all POM switch. However after some lube they do become full travel smoothies for all intents & purposes. However they do use different molds & do not come with the LED diffusers. I had them in a HS board to try out real quick & was pretty happy with them. Just haven’t had a new build or rebuild to use them with proper yet. WIll report back when I do. Thinking of using them with my Neo Ergo when I get that. The batch I am in should be shipping any day now!

While I actually agree with @djmantis since TKC has gotten pretty far away from the pulse of the hobby in the past few years, I also have to agree with @pixelpusher since TKC was among the first sites I ordered stuff from to get into the hobby. I also remember drooling over the TKC1800s even though they were just painted G80-1800s (the painting was pretty top notch & they used automotive paint AFAIK). Definitely sad to see them go nostalgia wise, but realistically I was part of their problem. The last things I ordered from them was IFK Sanctuary Rebirth & IFK x TKC x Alexotos Aether. Which are both awesome looking sets, but I think we all know IFK had a pretty shoddy product overall when it came their dye-sub PBT sets.
