Interesting Finds & Heads-Ups

Seems like that may be the case?

They’re up now. I’d just gotten some of the the Hojicha Reserve tactile switches and Reserve stabilizers and was looking to get more of the Hojichas and noticed Pea Flower clickies along with Matcha Reserve linears were now available.

The Hojichas are definitely interesting – a medium-strong tactile that is very, very smooth. They’ve definitely managed to combine factory lubrication with a tactile bump and not managed to annihilate the bump’s feel. They don’t have a very noticeable sound on return, but they do have a bottom out clack.

Ordering some of the Pea Flowers now, though this first batch apparently has a shorter spring than they planned on.

Thanks for the heads up about this!

It seems like the Pea Flower uses a click bar rather than a click jacket (a big plus IMO):

Thinking about ordering both the Pea Flowers and Hojichas now…

Yep. Both versions. Honestly, I thought these would be in stock. Why do they still call these “Group Buys”? Omnitype is going to order the sets without doubt. They’re not going to rely on customer funding to determine their order. Shouldn’t they start labeling this as a “Preorder” with a discount? Maybe the GB term is too ingrained in the market to change things at this point.

At least do the thing where the offer a couple hundred sets for the real die hards to get first thing, then the rest is pre-order.

Deadline Studio doin’ their thang:

I’m sure they will be terrible to type on, but the kitting is decent and they look cool :sunglasses:

Might be tough to find a PCB recessed enough that the switches don’t show. Maybe a good candidate for some medium switches.

The new owner of SP is doing a Reddit AMA from noon to 3pm today, Eastern time, supposedly coinciding with another big announcement on r/mechanicalkeyboards and GeekHack.

The announcement: SA Grand Budapest R2 (but with no ISO support)
and EDIT: The kit listing does now include an ISO kit. The kitting in general seems to still be in motion.

SA Grand Budapest Round 2

Hmm, I’m a sucker for Tulip & $65 is a great deal for that huge base. Might have to jump on it even though I am not a huge fan of uniform profiles.

something about the design of the fonts looks like a cheap Ali set to me. There’s just no life to the legends. They look sterile, generic? I’ll buy it because I like beige and uniform profile though.

Back in the daft days I used to check MechMarket every 15 minutes I remember there being a redditor that was trying to complete a Budapest set completely from extras (grab bags). Came pretty close too.

Yeah the old buy multiple grab bags & hope for the best strategy, that brings back some memories for sure. Although I only ever got a couple grab bags from SP & wasn’t looking to put together or complete sets. Just wanted the keys I thought were the coolest & the ones that went well with existing sets I have, then sold on the rest. Hopefully now that SP is seemingly pivoting to be more involved with the community they’ll be many more days of that!

This would be fantastic as a GMK set (am not a big fan of SA). Besides loving the movie, the colors are a close second, independent of the source material.

This ticks a lot of the right boxes, except for the flex cuts on the PCB, but for the price, and everything that comes with it, I think I can overlook that…

Gateron has another new factory-lubed all-POM switch, this time a heavy tactile.

Oooh, I might have to check those out. I’m really enjoying the Sea Salts, which are also factory lubed and all POM. They’re the first linears I’ve used that I haven’t felt the need to lube.
