Collective Complaining about the Heat/Humidity

It’s a hot year. You might be in the middle of the heatwave. I might be in the middle of the heat wave.

Let us all embrace the heat together.

It’s not about one-upping each other, it’s about sharing this misery we call summer…

As a note, I purchased a tiny cheap ($100) evaporative cooler for my home office because for some GOSH DARN REASON THE AC VENTS JUST DON’T PUMP ENOUGH AIR INTO THE ROOM. My goodness it’s been a lifesaver.

I’ve also been a fan of wetting a paper towel, putting it in the freezer, and taking it out later to throw on my forehead like a headband to keep the noggin from overheating. Also popscicles have been a godsend.

What are y’all going through and what have y’all been doing to stay alive?

Man, that 23 percent humidity must feel nice… :smiling_face_with_tear:

In the humid hellscapes nothing but shade and air conditioning saves us. A month ago midwest got hit with a 90+/90+. Talk about heat and humidity. It felt like we were swimming in a pool of unpleasant, warm broth as you were simmering in it.

I can vibe with this thread hardcore this year. We’ve been in a pretty nasty heat wave here in SW PA & of course the hottest days of the past month or so we’ve had outdoor work to do… Then today really sucked, we were supposed to be getting a nice setup in an air conditioned warehouse to spray some trim & T&G panelling we need to paint. Well we get down there today & the dude from the one company is like "You guys can’t be here today, we’re having our financial agents come to see if we’re gonna continue to rent the space the out. So we ended up hand painting the poplar 1x6 boards in the parking lot of the job with nowhere to hide from the sun or heat! I looked like I jumped in a pool by the end of the day today!

Pain. I’m a “winter person” if you want, i can deal with extreme low temps, but heat? I feel like i’m slowly being cooked in some gigantic type of oven, even at night. I just spent 2-3 hours filing around on a 3d printed plate for a 3d printed keyboard and i was sweating just from that. Just uuugh.

Some rain today brought the temp down enough for the added humidity to not matter as much. I’ll take relief where I can get it!

The production room I work in has been scheduled to have it’s AC fixed “next week” for about three years now >.> Sweating is good for you, right? The nearby filtered water station keeps me hydrated. (Stay hydrated!)

Adjacent to the paper-towel method, I have this sort of long, sectionalized bean-bag thing to drape over the back of my neck - sometimes I heat it when my spine is being mean, but lately it’s been very helpful taken straight from the freezer.

I’m just gunna leave this here:

Maryland is kinda known for it’s insane weather, but honestly, summer is like breathing through a sponge soaked in hot water…

Above 90, heat and intelligence are inversely related. No AC, makes for a slow witted workplace. Fans and paper weights are friends.

Fall/Winter here. Summer: not a fan. Not my correct era to be alive. Yet: keebs.

Leaves and daylight naice tho.

You Americans on the other side of the great pond stole my summer! Since October last year it has been raining heavily here almost every day.

Meanwhile, my garden and the highway scenery has turned into an [urban] temperate rain forest, coastal Oregon style. I even had to buy a chainsaw and climbing gear in an attempt to hold my spot.

I think this is the equivalent of putting your head under water in a hot tub and taking a deep breath.

EW. Just no.

Gonna be over 100 later this week in Colorado, but thankfully with <20% humidity.

I grew up in Florida and spent my whole life on the east coast, and all my family is in Taiwan or China. The humidity immediately makes me feel angry. I feel like I’ve been angry my whole life lol

Can we all just collectively turn down the temperature on Earth thanks

I had to dig up my septic cover in this inferno and it prevents me from driving with the top down on my car for like 6 hours in the middle of the day.

I also exacerbate it by wearing a lot of black and navy clothing. I need to embrace white t-shirts at some point.

Just here to concur with all of the sentiments above while continuing the ritual sacrifices that keep our 20-year-old AC unit running.

Our Freon which art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy cooling come.
Thy vapor compression be done, on Earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily working fluid,
And forgive us our door openings, as we forgive those who open doors against our dads’ wishes.

We had four straight days of 100+F with a peak of 107F on my back deck yesterday.

I live in Oregon and for early July, this is unusual (to put it mildly). It was about 97 today, so 10 degrees cooler. That’s better… I guess.

Wow, is that inland or coastal side?!

@mf68 That’s cool!

@skwrl At least it’s getting down at night.

We have a straight-back 3 BR with just two bedroom AC units. We do okay paired with fans, but that early morning window time is critical. When it stays 77 or above, I creep closer to another AC.

That emerging lush, urban “temperate rainforest” thing where I am living, is happening about 155 km = 96 statute miles land inward.

Everybody is complaining about how difficult it gets keeping up with the vegetation in their gardens and road workers are very busy keeping it at bay.

It is not “official” yet, but it is very obvious what is happening. Ground water levels are at a peak.
