Will the Smoothies mess up my typing?

I’m thinking about buying some Smoothies. I was just wondering if they are like “too light and smooth” so I will mess up my typing? Given that they are only 40gr I’m kind of worried, and I DO NOT want to spring swap.

We can’t answer questions only you can answer.

I liked stock Smoothie spring but have since swapped in 58g 23m CK Super Long 2-stage springs instead to a bit more out of the switch in Polaris. It’s a good zero-regret switch that performs well without any tuning.

Buy a Gateron Switch Tester With Sample Set, it has the Smoothie as well as a bunch of others. You can then try it out on the switch tester or pull it out and put it in as a key on your current keyboard to try / test out.

(I was going to suggest getting a 10-pack and install a row with it but it doesn’t look like the Smoothies come in a 10-pack)

Milktooth has Gateron Smoothies for $2.60/10 switches:

They also have free shipping over $49, so I’ll often wait and buy two different sets of switches there to save a bit on shipping fees.

@najasnake12, on a side note, these sorts of quick questions are perfect for “the Random Questions Thread!” :slight_smile:

A general trend that has been true, at least for me in my experience;

Any switch (or key shape) that’s significantly different from the last I used will take some adjustment - and while swapping-back will likewise require adjustment, I’ll never really lose proficiency with a given setup so much as need a spin-up period whenever I swap. The most awkward of those adjustments for me tends to be moving from heavy tactiles to light linears, whereas the move back is a bit more quick and easy for me.

So for me switching messes me up a little in the very short term, but never messes me up permanently or for very long.

I’ll echo everyone else & say get a 10 pack to try out before buying. Smoothies are pretty light, but they do have a long spring (18mm IIRC) so they feel a little bit heavier than their stated weight at the start of the keypress. Also I think the Sea Salt Smoothies (the blue ones) have a slightly heavier spring in them. The have an extra tenth of mm travel & heavier spring compared to OG smoothies, but are the same otherwise (sans color) so that’s another option to try these switches out.

Piggy-backing on the thread a bit, my apologies. I just got in some Snow Rabbits and the springs have crazy ping. Are the Smoothies like that too? The speings sound completely unlubed. I haven’t open them up yet to confirm.

No the Snow Rabbits are supposed to be dry I believe, but Smoothies are factory lubed even on the spring. My batch of Snow Rabbits has the same issue, I’m fairly certain lube will kill most of the spring noise, but I plan on spring swapping mine when I use them though.

I don’t remember having ping issues with Smoothies. :slight_smile:

Every listing that I found claim that they are factory lubed; maybe they skipped the springs :person_shrugging:
It’s not a huge deal as I intend to swap the springs as well, I was just surprised.

Huh, maybe I was wrong about that then, they could’ve lubed everything but the springs. Although even then the lube will usually get on the spring through use & calm down spring ping. It could just be the good old crappy Gateron springs in use in the snow rabbits then?
