So with the Neo65 being a really high quality board in the budget-friendly tier, as well as it being easily available, I decided that this would be a great board for me to dip my toe into DIY customization w/o too much fear of completely ruining things.
It has both copper and brass weights available that don’t have overly intricate designs, and weights are $33 USD (brass) to $45 USD (copper) for replacement if things go completely off the rails…
My beginning attempts were just natural patina with hand oils and regular exposure:
IMHO it looked good, and I knew it would age gracefully, but wanted something that had a little more visual flair, so that played around with just white vinegar and letting it air dry:
Then I decided to go all in and try to go for the blue/green patina that I love from Salvun’s keycaps.:
I’m actually LOVING the full on patina look and it was done with a 3:1 ratio of red wine vinegar and Miracle-Gro that I found from this site.
From here, I think I will hit it with a coat if clear to lock it in, and deepen the colors in a smidge.
I also have a brass weight being shipped that I would like to try out flame patina like this:
