What's on your workbench today?

Muahahaaa. Dude, we need a Freight Club now! It’s supposed to say Fright Club. All 3 sound pretty good, really.

I was about to say, that board will carry some of that cat with it forever

Finally getting together a small setup for soldering at home together. Unfortunatley, I just had a septoplasty so it’s gonna be a bit before I think it’s safe to do so as I can’t really smell right now. Pray for my sense of smell to return soon so I can finally build my Jaguar!

Yeah, that’s probably a good idea to wait. Too easy to melt something accidentally if your sniffer doesn’t detect it in time.

defies physics and somehow solders hand to PCB

But yeah, i do not wanna ruin anything!

No need to worry about that. Your olfactory bulb sits much higher up in your nose than the distal nasal septum.

Testing a Keyboardbelle case to see which switch/plate combo would be good with it.

Conclusion: Anything will do. The case is very loud. It makes even non-long pole switches sound like long pole. I could’ve work with that but, unfortunately, the sound is largely that of the case and very little of the switch can be heard.

I’m going to go with NK Olivia. It’s darn smooth yet sounds like shit in other boards so it’s poifect for this board.

Great option for a Wooting 60HE.

Experiments with dye to see if awful Leopold vapor keycaps can be salvaged

Left is stock right dyed green with ritemore.

Maybe a Christmas set with the mods and a red set

I built my Corsa today! I’ll have to get some photos later, but man… what an interesting build! I have to admit, without a build guide I might have been lost when it comes to mounting the plate assembly. It’s kinda bonkers, honestly. But it went smoothly and I’m happy with the end result. I used all of the included foams and such so it’s a fairly solid build. Hotswap with XCJZ Mustard Green switches. The switches feel good, but they sound pretty hollow.

In honor of the recent Octoberfest I put Klassiker on it with an appropriate gif.

Finally finished up that batch of UHMknowns I was lubing & threw them in my Frog. Then topped it off with Hineybeige Which actually has enough keys to cover the nav cluster without numpad keys!

Vaguely retro-inflected plate from Xometry (thanks to swill’s generator), full of Box Navies and Zuggear/Durock stabs. Handwiring and wooden sandwich case to follow.

The red function keys give me a BBC Micro vibe :owl:

Yup! Red, bunched up, and centered was very much inspired by the BBC Micro. Hhkb-esque mods and sparse bottom row, plus the tweaks to the nav cluster are also meant to add to a retro vibe, but without significantly affecting the compatibility with sculpted keycap sets.

So that being said, the first (of potentially three… gotta love that bulk discount) will use DSA, lol.

Soldered the PCBs for the Charybdis together, sadly the thumb cluster on the left half is not working right now. I’ll get the KiCad Project open and double check all connections. Besides that, I flipped one LED on the right half as the only noticeable error so far.

Changed for a new one with correct orientation and now both sides light up like they should.

So with the Neo65 being a really high quality board in the budget-friendly tier, as well as it being easily available, I decided that this would be a great board for me to dip my toe into DIY customization w/o too much fear of completely ruining things.

It has both copper and brass weights available that don’t have overly intricate designs, and weights are $33 USD (brass) to $45 USD (copper) for replacement if things go completely off the rails…

My beginning attempts were just natural patina with hand oils and regular exposure:

IMHO it looked good, and I knew it would age gracefully, but wanted something that had a little more visual flair, so that played around with just white vinegar and letting it air dry:

Then I decided to go all in and try to go for the blue/green patina that I love from Salvun’s keycaps.:

I’m actually LOVING the full on patina look and it was done with a 3:1 ratio of red wine vinegar and Miracle-Gro that I found from this site.

From here, I think I will hit it with a coat if clear to lock it in, and deepen the colors in a smidge.

I also have a brass weight being shipped that I would like to try out flame patina like this:
