What did you order or think about ordering?

Ahh there it is, I knew it was that profile (that looks kinda weird/cone-ish from the top down) but I just had no clue what it was called since theres so many names now.

I wasn’t familiar with VSA and I knew something was off about this DSA set haha, thank you for the info, I actually considered it in the past but the white legends seems off with this colorway in my opinion.

Thank you!

I actually saw this keyboard mentioned in the comments but when I looked it up I didn’t notice a black version, Weird, I hope those keycaps are available to purchase.

I have a set on an aluminum/oak sandwich handwire I made. I like them quite a bit. It looks like they were used on the Tab 90M. The legends can be a bit irregular on the mods (that tooling was rode hard and put up wet), and like any budget doubleshot “PBT” there is enough ABS in the blend that shine can happen. So far I can only really notice it on the spacebar. At USD20 or less, they’re a good value.

As for the colorway, that’s all preference of course, but the original Cherry Dolch boards were also white on grays. Obviously very different profile and legend style.

Mekibo was out of 60g 22mm single-stage Geon Springs so ordered 62g variant and TX UXL single-stage springs which I not tried before.

I doubt TX springs can justify the $2.50 premium over Geon springs but that’s the kind of surprise I can enjoy so bring it on!

I have never tried the UXL variants but do have some recent TX springs & they’re definitely good, but really can’t justify the $2.50 premium over Geon’s springs IMO. In fact I find Geon’s springs to be slightly nicer, that’s why I was advocating for them so much awhile back. Who knows though, we have a different taste in springs so they might have that special sauce you’re looking for?

Premium sucks. I used to rave about Tecsee Slow Springs, aka CK Slow Spring awhile back but pricing was hard to swallow ($13). Turns out CK Super Long Two-Stage is almost the same yet priced at $8, full $5 cheaper.

But I still don’t know what that special sauce I’m looking for is and the only way to find out is try things. What I do know is that the stock single-stage spring in Gateron Pro Ultra Golden Glory Red (or whatever its name is) felt really good and very distinct from how multi-stage springs feel.

Ordered some TX medium springs from Divinikey. These have long been my favorite springs. I recently have been trying out some dual and triple stage springs, but in a head to head competition, I still prefer the mediums.

I found that a 67g medium spring feels so nice in the Gateron melodic switch that I actually changed my mind about selling them. :joy:

Also, a lot of my HMX switches need beefier springs.

TX 67g springs have traditionally been my go-to for linears; granted the ones I have were rebranded as “short” when they started making lengths other than 14mm. I wonder how the 15mm compare

I just managed to get $490 worth of new SA keycaps for $180 shipped on the aftermarket. People in need of money sell at wild prices. Fine by me

I have also noticed an unusually large number of people in close-knit hobbies who feel like they need to explain that they need money. Probably a mix of some hoping to shame buyers into not negotiating, some wanting to implicitly assure you that the goods are still high quality despite a low price, and some coping and self-justifying the fact that relatively few items hold value like we might hope. Or all three, and I’m sure many of them very much do need it.

What did you come away with?

Finally got those HMX Hyacinth V2U and Purple Dawn switches:

I would say both versions of the Hyacinth have a brighter, sharper, louder sound than the Purple Dawns. Some of this might come down to the PDs having heavier springs, but even when pressing the keys pretty hard I’d say they sound more dull than the Hyacinth switches. In a simple acrylic tester, the difference isn’t dramatic, but noticeable when compared side-by-side.

It’s almost like they have the same clack, but with the Purple Dawns it’s somewhat dampened by something, like speaking through a cupped hand.

All three switches are pretty similar in terms of their wobble and smoothness, and the PDs feel like more firm versions of the V2Us, with the latter having a slightly more crisp bottom-out.

The two Hyacinth switches have a more similar sound than I expected them to given that one of them is full-travel and the other isn’t. That is, I thought the full-travel V2Us would be more quiet and understated compared to the V2’s long-pole sound, but they seem just as loud and clacky to me. That being the case, I think I’m going to try them in the Margo to see how much of that comes through with the stock silicone configuration.

Today I noticed that Purple Dawn with its 62.5g stock spring actually sounds brighter than 57.5g triple-stage spring I tested with.
