Interesting Finds & Heads-Ups

Saw a neat little segment from PBS News Hour about the rising interest in typewriters, from refurbishment and repair to the reasons why people are turning to them for writing and collecting.

I wish they would make the roller switches in a 4mm travel variant.

what profile is that? It looks like some kind of XDA thing

It’s PBS, a new profile by the same designer of MT3 and MTNU. You can read more about it on Matt3o’s blog here:

Yea PBS is the new kid on the block created by Matt3o. They have a bunch of profile comparison charts if you check out the product page.

I’m not typically into flat keys, but PBS does have me intrigued. I want to see some color sets, if any come out, to see how full reverse dye-sub looks on them.

I’m looking forward to PBS Galaxy.

Yes, this is a good one. Maybe PBS Classic will grow on me, but it just looks like a cheap Chinese set at the moment. I think it’s the smaller legends :man_shrugging:

That’s pretty good! I was worried they might be washed out. Thanks!

… or maybe it’s the Cherry icons. :speak_no_evil:

As a certified purp enjoyer this looks right up my alley - definitely keen to see samples. I’m intrigued by GMK’s special effects, and interested to see how sets like this one turn out.

I like the look, the profile really reminds me of XDA (a profile keycap which I had a lot of time with). It seems very promising with thicc walls and such, I might consider this as an option compared to my XDA if I can find it.

Also, whats y’alls opinion on SA profile keycaps and their amazon clone extended family that I see (some goofy “CSA,” “RSA,” etc).

@pixelpusher got some green for ya

I kind of love that they’re giving something like this a try. Tai-Hao has done it before with a couple Cubic profile sets and while I did love those, I also wanted to see something like this in a more Cherry-like profile, and on thicker keycaps. Well - here we go! Looking forward to seeing what other colors they might try this with.

Also interesting, this appears to be the first DCX set in doubleshot PBT rather than ABS or dyesub, if that isn’t a typo.

A Tai-Hao throwback for sure. Being PBT has me worried though. I don’t think we can judge the quality of this set based on the ABS results

I wonder if that’s a mistake? Drop has mislabeled ABS sets as PBT before, and then changed it after people asked about it. I kind of wonder if it’s just part of a generic template they use when posting new sets.

The description talks about them trying something new with PBT, so it’s legit. I kinda wish they were blanks though. :joy:

I noticed this in the description:

“doubleshot legends injected within exacting tolerances of nearly 0.05 millimeters”

Impressive for double shot PBT if true. I’m curious about the thickness on these caps; I can’t seem to find the actual thickness actually listed. I’m not chancing this on a preorder, but I’m very curious to see how this turns out.

I think that’s copied from the ABS DCX description, but it might also be true for the same reason. Similarly curious to see how these turn out in practice.

Community: Matrix Lab has the craziest, over-the-top designs.

Han: Hold my beer.

unfortunately going to run through Click Clack, but at least the Western market gets easier access to it.

Oh yea I love the wild side that exists in Han’s boards. It is great. They look like a prop straight out of a star wars/sci-fi movie set. His alice board that I am forgetting the name of was really cool looking, I wanted to get one.

Edit: Found the alice board I was referring to, it’s called the Solid Alex.
