If you want to waste your time, do it here (pt. 3)

So, I have a cold right now. I really need to listen to some well-made keyboards. Given that I deeply regret checking out the “Post Your Keyboards!” thread (as well as hearing the typing sound of some of y’alls keyboards); everything I own sounds terrible. Please post the typing sound(s) of your favorite keyboard(s). —preferably something clacky and/or creamy.

And don’t say this topic is useless (I completely agree), you clicked on it.

-Thanks

Alongside recommending the general typing sounds thread, I’ll take this as an opportunity to share a not-too-serious list of personal favorites from my recording collection, curated for your enjoyment. Every keyboard below falls into some variation of the “entry” categories. Cheers, and get well soon!

“Clacky” - the classic keyboard sound

Minimalist entry custom with modestly priced long-pole linear switches, an FR4 plate, and magic stabs

On the crispy side of clacky; minimalist entry custom with modestly priced full-travel linear switches, a custom POM plate, and heroic stabs

Variations on a theme; here’s the same build but with modestly priced buttery linears and PBT caps

Now the same one again, same switches, but with a wooden plate and taller ABS caps - mellow side of clacky - no magical and/or heroic stabs here, though - just some admirably ambitious ones that can’t hide my ill mastery of grease

A prebuilt cosplaying as an entry custom with decidedly expensive long-pole linear switches and surprisingly decent factory stabs

The quiet side of clacky; fast-curve springs! Switches made from literal leftovers and one of the cheapest hot-swap keyboards, topped with budget keycaps and stuffed in a fancy wad of plastic with a needlessly fancy brushed aluminum plate. In practice, actually more quiet than most of my silent builds in spite of its chassis thanks to the springs that discourage bottoming out the switches.

“Creamy” - it’s like clacky but wet somehow

One of the creamiest keyboards I have ever used is a stock prebuilt budget board >.>

My first experience with what I’d call creamy, and a pivot in my keyboard journey. Minimalist entry custom with flex-cut polycarbonate plate, over-engineered expensive linears, and painstakingly-tuned normal-ass stabs, one of like two times I did that right

The clacky side of creamy - designer entry custom with modestly priced long-pole linear switches, a polycarbonate plate, and servicable stabs

“Thocky” - I avoid this word like the plague but I couldn’t find a better one for these, they don’t sound like rubre but are deeper than clacks

Designer entry custom with mid-market long-pole heavy tactiles, a carbon fiber plate, and magic stabs

Early entry custom with silicone dampening and decidely expensive long-pole tactile switches, an FR4 plate, and thin DCS keycaps, lord knows what stabs are in here but they sound fine somehow. It’s kind of a weird sound in present company but feels heavenly.

The same early custom platform with fairly expensive linears (early success in factory lubing), an FR4 plate, and what I’m pretty sure are good ol’ Cherry stabs

“Thunky” - deeper than thock, tha thunk

Deep thunx - the bougiest of “entry” customs with middle-market heavy tactiles, a very flexy polycarbonate plate (and extra-thin flex-cut PCB), and critically - ceramic keycaps. This build sound really neat but was borderline non-functional thanks to chattering.

Satisfying springy thunx - clacky but with that deep reverb alongside - actual entry budget kit with modestly priced long-pole snappy tactiles, a polycarbonate plate, and cheap OEM pudding caps on top; one of the best bang for buck builds when it comes to typing experience - I’d regret having sold it if it wasn’t to a close friend

Thanks, I really like that people on this forum puts so much time into posting and replying with quality content. Since I am still home from school, I’m gonna write my opinion on each one of those:

(I am not trying to “speak” like an expert, I’m only giving my opinion )

    1. That clack makes me wanna sleep.
    1. I liked the first one better; this one is too quiet. Although, that clack is really good too.
    1. Smoothies sound so smooth in my opinion. (That’s everyone’s opinion, right?)
    1. Why do they kind of sound like quiet and smoother holy pandas???
    1. That sounds really tactile, even though they are linear(s)?
    1. Too quiet.
    1. I agree, it sounds really wet.
    1. HELPPP MY GATERON REDS WITH TAI-HAO SUNSET KEYCAPS SOUNDS LIKE THAT JUST SCATCHIER
    1. I agree, good stabs.
    1. The spacebar sounds thocky. I also agree; they sound a little bit weird, but I like it.
    1. I wanna eat that sound.
    1. That is the deepest thunx I have ever heard.
    1. Are they a little bit scratchy? (No offence, I really dig them )
