[GB] the Heavy-9: aftermarket housing for the Leopold FC980C and FC980M

Haven’t noticed any issue at all with my setup (e.g., no skipping letters, no letter repeats due to button registering as being ‘held’, no intermittent disconnections).

I am on an M1 Mac Mini and it’s about a meter away from my keyboard with nothing in between and am in an environment with not much potential for wireless interference, so YMMV.

And yes, using the stock PCB

I have been playing around with the parts from @Dave to do a MX setup in my Heavy9, rotating it with the topre pcb now and then. I don’t think these keycaps look great with this custom color, I will have to try some other options.

Definitely! (would want one)

A little late to comment, but fuck me, that is just drop-dead gorgeous. She’s a keeper.

Quite late to the party but here’s my Heavy-9, specs as follow:

  • Heavy-9 in K2 finish
  • Stock sliders, housings and domes
  • Des-ring #3, sliders and stabs lube
  • Keycaps: top & bottom rows and numpad cluster are Hi-Pros from an 108UG, alpha is stock FC980C beige

I wanted to use as many keys as possible from the 108UG leftovers (HHKB took priority) so the plate was modded to shift the housing 3mm horizontally to accommodate 1.5u keys. The result is a poor man’s WKL as in the picture.

I don’t know why but I’m loving this mixing and matching of stuff that shouldn’t be where they are.

Now you can 3D print some WKL blockers and it’s going to be even cooler :eyes:

Yeah, though I still have to figure out a way to attach such blockers. Because the 1.5u keycaps overhang the switches in the middle so those cannot be used to mount anything.

Never came around to posting pics. Didnt take these pics to show them off (just happened to be on my phone), so they’re not the best. Anyways:

Hi! Treating myself to a Fc980c for xmas
May i ask how you got a coiled cable to fit in please? The Fc980c comes with micro usb and not type c I believe. Thanks!

you can ask in KT who has a spare 980c usb-c daughterboard. and you may still need to file the opening because usb-c is larger than mini-usb (not micro).

or you could get a custom coiled mini-usb cable end somehow

Think new ones come with usb-c now. Anyone knows if they will fit? (Apart from maybe a little filing)
