[GB] the Heavy-9: aftermarket housing for the Leopold FC980C and FC980M

Does anyone has a good solution to raise the Heavy-9 typing angle up? 3 degree is quite low and too flat for me.

I put these rubber feet under my Heavy-6. I don’t like it as much on my Norbaforce which already has risers.

The adhesion is pretty good and I have it straight on the backplate. It shouldn’t fall off unless you push/pull the board on the desk a lot.

Thanks mate, I’d give it a go. Does it leave residue if remove?

When I took it off the Norbaforce, it wasn’t anything that an alcohol wipe can’t handle. I think it got dirtier bc I waited and some dust got on the sticky surface.

I saved the paper that covers the sticky surface and I ended up reusing the old feet elsewhere–and the adhesive was still good.

Are they shipping in order of finish (and what is ready in a box) rather than FIFO by order date?

We ship in FIFO order whenever possible, but of course if a certain finish is available to ship first, the FIFO ordering would apply within the available batch first and the other batch might ship after that. Therefore all orders may not necessarily ship in FIFO order, only within a particular SKU.

Since I didn’t want to use some rubber feet to raise the typing angle, I got some 10mm diameter wooden dowel, drilled some 2.5mm holes countersunk and got some extra hex screw M3 long enough to go into the original holes in the back. Here’s my hack to raise the typing angle

Pretty elegant solution!

I’m sure some of y’all saw this, but I figured I’d share just in case.

Is there any plan to do a polycarb Heavy-9? I’d love such case and I’m sure there are others.

No such plans at present.

Any update on when the Aperture cases might be ready to ship?

Hello there! Unfortunately, we had to send the Aperture Heavy-9s back to the factory for refinishing after finding inconsistencies in the finish. Therefore, the shipping ETA for these particular housings have been postponed to the end of the year or sooner. Apologies for this delay, but we hope you understand. We just want to deliver you the best housings possible.

Thank you, and feel free to email us at shop@norbauer.com if you have further concerns!

It’ll probably be much sooner than the end of the year, but with all the delays we’ve been hit with this year, that is just the very pessimistic estimate I’ve put up on the site at the moment.

The vendor in Silicon Valley who did the Heavy Grail powder coating has been knocking it out of the park lately, so we’ve getting those refinished by them.

Sounds good! I’ll be happy to wait for my heavy 9 for a few more weeks/months then

Just wanted to leave a comment saying that I absolutely love the Heavy-9.
Though I bought mine second-hand from someone(still in flawless condition btw), my love for the board hasn’t diminished. The heftiness, Powdercoat quality, and thocky spacebar are outstanding. I’m also so glad that I asked if the fc980m was compatible during ic, now I can appreciate the board even more! Love the sound, love the bezels, love the care put into this project. Great job Norbauer! Looking forward to your future projects!

I’m kind of in the market for one of these now. My partner started working and wants a good keyboard but fullsize and the FC980 layout is a really good compact full size layout.

And @batonnoir’s usage of the alternate BLE controller makes me wiggle because she also wants bluetooth.

A hefty price for the Heavy-9 but god damn it’s beautiful.

(If my partner likes the layout, I’m ordering a Heavy-9 if still available!)

Please buy them up before I purchase another one in Aperture. :persevere:

LOL. If I go for one, it’d be in K2, possibly VHS. Aperture would look good on my desk if that was a layout I’d go for. I do use a HKKB, and using a Kara right now. TKL kb for me is a U80.

Sorry I can’t help you out with reducing the Aperture stock xD

I also currently have a yang controller for 980m. Have you noticed any connectivity issue with a full metal case?

I’m also assuming you’re using the stock PCB, I haven’t gotten it to work with an aftermarket qmk PCB.
