I haven’t had a chance to try one myself yet, but I figured I’d chime in since no one else has. From all I have seen or heard of them the Rainy seems like a very solid starter board. The pricing is great, decent aesthetics, & sound pretty good when built with care. Since you’re new around here I’m guessing you’re just starting to dip your toes in the waters of the hobby. If that is the case & you’re looking at grabbing a Rainy as one of your first boards I’d say go for it as long as you can afford it. I think it would make a great jumping off point to get into the hobby!

I’ve been in the hobby a long time & can tell you firsthand that easily 70% of making a good keyboard build is in the choice of parts (i.e. switches, plate material, stabilizers, keycaps, etc.) & how well you tune those parts (i.e. lubing the switches & stabilizers, what mounting method is used if the board has multiple mounting options, force break modding the case if needed, your use of foams or not, etc.). In short you can make a great keyboard sound & feel terrible, then on the other hand you can make a budget board sound & feel great. Also your preferences will not align with everybody else’s preferences. So take anyone else’s opinions on KBs & parts with a grain of salt & base your preferences off what feels & sounds the best to you. This hobby is just too expensive to try keeping up with the flavors of the months if you get me!

Anyways GL finding what you’re looking for! You found the right the right place to ask questions & get advice so don’t be afraid to ask us for help if it’s ever needed & welcome to Keebtalk!

I bought into it when it first dropped in China and I have to say it is super well done for its price range but it does come with a few issues that I haven’t seen many people speak of in the international market.

One of the main issues people in China had with it is that the coating chips off when removing keycaps and switches. This can be easily avoided but it has happened to quite several people in China. Another issue was their QC, some people had missing gasket beans upon delivery, some had a dead PCB and there were even some with a misaligned switch plate where you could see the switches of the F rows.

But generally speaking, it is an insanely good board for the price and how it sounds but do consider the other budget options available on the market. If anything, I would recommend the Bridge75. It has the same form factor, same price but with a ball catch system for easy access.

It’s funny because it sounds like it but I have been doing this hobby for 3 years XD I just like collecting some of the keyboards even though they maybe suck

I do have a huge issue with the Rainy, almost like with all of the tri-Mode stuff the more or less sketchy/violated VIA/QMK usage. I dislike VIA itself enough to not buy a board that is VIA only, but that in combination with the QMK licensing issues and no source files makes that an instant dealbreaker
