Yes, full backspace. It wasn’t egregious, but I wanted to snuff it out as much as I could, lol.
I couldn’t resist and did some late night vodka lubricated tinkering on the Ergo.
Built it with some HMX Chus + case & plate foam + the included stabs (wires lubed with dielectric grease as I do with all my stabs).
Still not sure if this is the right choice of keycaps. I was hoping to make the navy ano stand out a bit more. Metropolis looks nice but feels a little too dark now that I’m looking at it. I have Serika (GMK and MT3) and KKB BOW on standby that I was saving for a few other builds–maybe I’ll play around with that…
I do also have those ABS blanks from Keyreative but it’s my first time with this split/ergo layout lol legends may be nice to have.
It’s an Acer screen btw
Ahhh DARN I shoulda known, currently downloading that into my memory.
I got the group buy on the memory download, so I’m good atleast!
Got the Keebfront Bigwigs out for a spring swap in preparation for them going into my Neo Ergo auditioning for the starring role on the solder PCBs . Going with my fav springs as of late, some Geon 50g 18mm springs which will be lubed with 106. The dual stage 67g springs they come stock with are a little heavy for my liking is the reason for the swap. Gonna just roll with the factory lubing on the housings & slider as it is good enough to test them out. If I like them so much they go onto the solder PCB then I’ll hand lube them. Pretty excited to finally give them a shot too, with their materials (HDPE tops, PBT bottoms, POM sliders) I think they’ll be very unique sounding if nothing else really stand out. We shall see though, will report back in a little bit & might even break the mic for a sound test if I get the chance.
Now that’s some nice red alertage there!
Board: Hiney TKL One Poly
Plate: PC (top mount)
Switches: Gateron Cream Sodas (spring swapped with 18mm 55g Geon springs.)
Keycaps: GMK Burple
I was eyeing this board after seeing some other people with it on here. I planned on purchasing an extra from Hiney but I saw a /r/mm post right before I was going to pull the trigger. It was the good deal and I feel like the universe was telling me something.
I really enjoy the board over all. I didn’t really plan on it but it is Poly almost all the way down, what with the Poly case, PC plate, and the caps of the Gateron Cream Sodas being the material that they are. It has a muted sounded, but it isn’t necessarily quiet. I has a certain amount of resonance. It came with an extra black aluminum plate and PCB, but I am tempted to try and track down that red ano. one that is featured in some of Hiney’s photos.
My only draw back are the switches. I might have to live with them more, but there is just something about them that feels off. I liked them before, but I don’t know about this setup… Maybe it is cause the last board I typed on was full-travel?.. I can’t really explain it, but something just feels different and I am making a lot of mistakes when typing. We will see.
The problem is that I just got another board in and was planning on using Strawberry Wine V2s in that, and if the 3.8mm travel of the Cream Sodas is throwing me off, then the 3.6mm of the Strawberries isn’t going to work. It is killing my whole plan. I might just commit and then change later if need be.
I am really stuck between not waiting everything to be Cherry Browns or Blacks these days (with slight spring or film changes), but at the same time feeling like that is just what I want.
Last note, not sure if Burple will be the end all keycaps on here, but I think they work. I like the purple mods but I think the alphas are a little too dark and blue. I checked out the same color alpha kit on Omnitype, but right now it is priced higher than what I payed for the base kit on during the Happy Hour sale.
Awesome setup, I think Blurple looks great on the poly One! We should be having our monthly Pittsburgh meetup in the next few weeks. I can ask Hiney if he has any extra red alum plates laying around his shop for you bud.
It makes it seem like a Discord board That would be great! Thank you so much.
No problem, I’ll see what’s up & let you know. Worst case I can get you the plate files & send you the DXF so you could have one cut.
Finally got my 3D printer back in good working order, had to do a hot pull and change the nozzle, and I replaced my filament with one that should be a little better behaved. While I was at it, I changed the glass bed to a magnetic PEI-coated steel (nice upgrade).
Got the main case halves printed, and I re-worked the “captive plate” mount to be a variety of top-mount using threaded heat-set inserts and separately printed spacers. I also painted the two top plates that will hide the sides of the switches. Did one in the textured black, but decided to roll with the yellow one showing, because yellow is fun and should look nice with the WOB spherical keycaps (with primary colored accents).
I’ve also finalized my plan for the hand-wired matrix (mostly sane, but with a couple weird spots to save a couple of pins) and confirmed that I really will have enough GPIO pins for the encoder, so yay me! I still need to print the MCU caddy, as well as rework the bottom plate and feet to print later, but I think that will all be easier with the rest of it finally existing in meatspace. Then of course the wiring.
There are two Alice keyboards on the table at once.
Since I assembled one (Neo Ergo) for typing.
Here is everything for typing and keycaps and switches and stabilizers, everything is configured purely so that it is pleasant for me to type text.
But to play games, you need a different assembly.
This is the second Alice (Spring Acrylic clone).
Everything is assembled and configured there as it is convenient for me to play games)
Is that artisan third down from the top a Bro Reaper V1 in the Blackjack colorway? Very nice if so!
I don’t remember anymore)
No biggie, pretty sure that’s what it is. Super nice cap!
I bought that one recentely and I can’t explain my feelings now
Spent the day on switches.
Silent Lucy v3 (the black ones)
I swapped the extremely light springs for some TX medium 62g springs. Lubed the springs and stems. I think they could actually use even more 205g0. I went really light, but some of them still have noise from the stem rails hitting the housing on off-center presses.
Overall, I’m quite happy. Very close in sound and feel now to the v1 Lucy switches which I love. In fact, I think I prefer these a bit more for the spring weight.
They feel nice in my Chapter One with a bouncy pc plate.
Maybe I should clean up my desk a bit. Glad you can’t see the rest of it. Man, I’m in the weeds with about 7 different projects. It’s a goddamn fulltime hobby.
Those keycaps… those keycaps. I’m still tempted, I really wish there were keycaps like this but as KAT, KAM, PBS, or MNTU.
