what kb is that? layout is so cool and the caps look great on it
That’s an Exclusive E8-V1
It was a god-awful group buy and many still don’t have their boards. I was lucky to get mine as well. The layout is called “Chinese WKL” usually. Board looks great with Plum
Trying out Mute Jades on the POM plate. Pretty crunchy, and not as well-defined and crisp compared to other click-bar switches.
They feel less “clean” than other Box click-bar switches, thanks to the dampener pushing the bar down and away from the stem cam, in turn creating a small bit of linear pre-travel. You feel the cam strike the bar, then release it - whereas with other Box clicky switches, you only feel the release since the cam is more or less engaged from the start of travel.
I still say they remind me more of Box Browns than Box Jades - though I can now say they are a little different; a little more firm and heavy, and a bit more consistent when it comes to sound.
Box tactiles can develop (or even be encouraged to develop) a light click not too unlike this one, but that has to do with lube on the leaf pusher / tactile cam thing - so depending on the state of the factory lube, they will sound and possibly feel a bit different from switch to switch - these of course always have the light click, being an intentional feature.
Edit: Mute Jade vs normal Box minutia discussion:
Some experimentation reveals that swapping a normal Box top onto these (removing the rubber dampener from the equation) actually appears to make the switch more quiet overall rather than less. This also cleans-up the feel, moves the click / tactile event back up to the top of travel, and raises the overall pitch of the sound. This is in the hand and also probably modulates with typing style; there are likely some configurations and ways of typing that would make the non-dampened configuration louder, but in the open on my desk, the stock one sounds more loud to me.
The downwards click (the bar being released from the cam and hitting the housing) is slightly - and I do mean slightly louder in this configuration - but the up-stroke is sufficiently louder in the stock switch that its overall sound level is noticeably more than without the dampener.
I can only guess this has something to do with the differing resting position of the bar, and perhaps the clack of the stem returning being more separate from the ticking of the bar. Maybe even that the stem has a little more upward linear travel after the bar, possibly striking the top housing a little harder - or perhaps having those vibrations less affected by the click-bar pushing upwards against it (since the bar has already topped-out against the dampener before the stem tops-out).
It seems the differently-shaped “click” bar is primarily responsible for the switch’s “muted” nature. The little “hammer” bend at the end faces a different direction than most of the other click bars, and it also features an additional bend. This isn’t to say the dampener does nothing or only pushes the tactile event downward in the travel - it does deepen the pitch of the bar-housing collision while softening it.
The high-pitched, sharp click is indeed muted by that dampener - but the overall noise level of the switch doesn’t seem to be any less thanks to the plastic collisions being unmitigated; even moreso with the dampener housing than without.
Thank you for the experimentation. I guess they are not for me then. Much appreciated.
Great idea. Pulled this out of Davy Jones’ locker for the day

I have the base kit and extras kit for Susawatari, should that have the spacebar you need in it?
I don’t particularly like MT3 so I am going to sell it, but I could sell it with the disclaimer it is missing that spacebar if you want it (and I have it)
Since the MCR caps are interfering with the North-facing silent Outemus, I’m swapping-in some switches that avoid the issue.
These are BOX Creams with BOX Silent Brown stems. Both of those switches are interference-free, and this combination happens to match the case and caps.
One of @vkeycaps gnarly artisans on my tester in the background there:
This lives on my desk now.
And now this is much more satisfying.
Been wanting one board for daily typing and another for gaming. This is what I’m using for daily driving! Loving it so much.
It’s a generic GH60 case with YMDK’s soldered PCB, JWK full nylon switches and plateless. I can’t get enough of this board.
Tell me more about your watch! It looks fun!
It’s a quasi-DIY watch called Watchy.
Mine has an aluminum case that they manufactured for it as well. It’s fun, but the battery life isn’t outstanding.
Cool name. They can name full-DIY version Watchy Doing.
You probably know this already, but that chonky lead clutch can also double as a handy stem holder for lubing.
I thought about that, but this one holds some mahoosive 6mm leads. However, I do have a cheapo lead holder I do use for lubing and I like that a lot more than the wire grabber type.
