My interpretation is that it is hard for a Nintendo game. I don’t think it is crazy hard when you compare it to other stuff though. Hollow Knight was hard. I heard the Dark Souls style games are hard.
They do a pretty good job in Dread of making you feel better the more you try. There were some bosses (particularly the last boss) where I thought they would be impossible the first time. However after a few attempts, you start making it through the first phase with 100% or 95% health. The more time you put in the better you get.
Oh absolutely. Dread is a direct callback to Super Metroid, right down to perfectly mimicing the little quirks of the shine spark that the game never tells you how to pull off but requires for getting 100%. Overall I’d say it’s maybe slightly easier than Super Metroid (bosses are more difficult but the overworld stuff is a lot more straightforward) without going into the egregiously easy territory like Metroid Fusion.
Yeah, it isn’t hard on the scale of Dark Souls where literally everything you encounter will kill you but it captures the same spirit of forcing you to learn how to deal with opponents that will absolutely wreck you the first time you have to fight them. I’d actually probably put it on the same-ish difficulty scale as Hollow Knight, though I may be misremembering that one a bit since its been a few years.
Played Dark Souls 1 for the first time, 2 all the way through for the first time, and I’m on my second play through of 3 right now. All in preparation for Elden Ring might give Sekiro a second chance as well, if I find the time. I remember not liking how little customization there was.
When I was living abroad I put like 500 hours in DS1. I had this shitty mobile hotspot as my internet and would just PVP all day. Probably like 150 hours in the actual game and the rest in PVP.
It was special, wasn’t it? Getting invaded by some guy doing cartwheel flips in full Havel gear
I’ll never forget the nights that I went without sleep after I had stumbled into the fight clubs at Pontiff Court in DS3. Everyone just respecting each other - not attacking the host - and waiting for their turn to fight.
Yeah man like I put 300 hours on this bridge or something on DS1, SL 120. Would just wait for someone to invade, bow, and then had a match. Primarily used the Estoc with like buffs and shit I forget that was like 10 years ago lmao.
I did so much DS2 PVP. The Iron Keep Bridge was such a great PVP spot. I didn’t do that much DS1 PVP aside from being a dick and invading people hehehehehe.
DS3 PVP was glorious! That courtyard after the pontiff is A for some good Dark Souls Fight Club action. I used to play with my friends quite often and we’d just all join in together and set up a fight club and have randoms fight us in a series of battles lol.
Good times. I still need to be sekiro at some point.
It’s not the best game I’ve played by a good measure, but it has this quality to it that I find relaxing, even absent-minded like watching TV. I like exploring I guess so this is good game for that.
Modding old consoles is pretty fun! This looks like a pretty simple, elegant case mod.
I wanted something to expand my soldering skills so I picked up a Gameboy Pocket and Gameboy Advanced to mod. They ended up not needing a ton of soldering, but I got the bug! I did a Gameboy Color and an SP too.
Super fun, I would recommend it to any one. I am tempted to go dig my Dreamcast out of my parents attic and mod the hell out of that. The only draw back is that some of these mods are not cheap, even if you do them yourself.
I dug out my 3DS and have been playing Dragon Quest 7. This game has a lot of charm (like all DQ games) but man… the main feature back in the day was how long this RPG is.
Now playing the remake, you can see how archaic this game design is. The game is like a collection of short story adventures, but it is so much padding… I am almost 10 hours in and the game hasn’t really opened up yet. Apparently I get the ability to change classes at 20 hours, oh boy!
Hmm never heard of Love Plus, I will have to check it out.
I got the Great Ace Attorney on a Black Friday deal, but due to getting lost and in the mail and some weather/shipping issues, I still don’t have it. I am excited to try it! I tried one of them one the DS but never completed it (first one I think).
I have been playing Super Mario 3D World & Bowsers’ Fury on the Switch. Got it for Christmas and I have really been enjoying it.
I would say if you loved Odyssey, give it a shot.
I really liked Odyssey, and gave Mario 3D All-Stars a shot after, but a lot of those games didn’t really click for me. Mario 64 was nostalgic for about an hour and then I was done. Sunshine was the one I was most interested in, but I felt like I was fighting the controls and the camera the whole time. Galaxy was the best of the bunch, but I didn’t really stick with it for long.
I just find the whole thing kind of interesting since I have really been enjoying “modern” Mario, but some of the other “classics” I missed are best staying on the shelf.
