Interesting Finds & Heads-Ups

Oh man, I didn’t see the sublegends. Tooling must have been crazy expensive.

It’s in SGD btw, just in case folks are wondering. It’s roughly $520~ in USD.

For us Polyamide fans. Those Mekanisk Ultramarine now have the same bottoms as H1s and Snow Whites. They’re pretty much the exact opposite of UHMWPE in almost every way.

I always wonder which exact plastics they use; Nylon is itself a branded polyamide with a few versions to its name.

New keyboard from TEX - Shura. Wish more keycap sets had a track point option.

I wonder that as well. Like is there a threshold when Nylon isn’t Polyamide? I found this sort of helpful.

I dig the sound dampening qualities of this plastic’s downstroke. No matter how much force your keypresses differ when typing, there’s this consistently “soft” reverb going on I just appreciate the hell out of.

Just an observation - the value of the pound has crashed so severely that you can get a lot of things off of Prototypist in the UK for cheaper than you can ordering from the US.

GMK Pono is cheaper to buy from the UK and pay DHL shipping on than it is to buy locally. They have a lot of keyboard deals too.

Since they force DHL to the US it is best that you double up on items. But even the DHL shipping was cheap at about 27 USD.

That’s pretty crazy. The XOX70 (green wk hotswap) is about $20 cheaper ordered via ProtoTypist (£317.50 or $345) than through Mechs & Co. ($365).

You aren’t thinking big enough. The Monokei TGR Tomo seventy five percent keyboard was like $540. It is 400 GBP on ProtoTypist right now or about $430!

I expect ProtoTypist will be getting an influx of international orders over the next week as people figure this out and they will mark everything up.

You’re on to something here! haha I’m pretty sure this is how George Soros made a killing in the 90s.

what do you guys think about the class80? I’m really intrigued by it. Trying to resist. I know it’s not going to feel like a “premium” kit, but it’s got so much going for it and the price isn’t insane.

It just now finally hit me that it’s Epomaker offering an MMStudio design. That’s kind of unexpected. I know they had the Class65 or whatever recently that went kind of weird. Only in that the design in the IC didn’t match the Group Buy design and that wasn’t revealed until after the GB had started.

So I guess it’s good they got some backing from a bigger outfit.

As for the design, I genuinely like it. However, I really wish I wouldn’t have to give up the three key cluster to get the indicator lights. I’m also glad to see they’re offering a Winkey version.

All that said, I’m out on this one. No more keyboards until next year.

Meh. All that hunk of aluminum for ugly old keyboard? I’m likely one of the oldest member here and, yeah, retro can be cool but ugly is ugly.

Normally I am a beige guy, but this reminds of me of old Japanese keyboards and I think the Maroon is actually much nicer. Epomaker is also charging a flat $75 shipping fee regardless of where you are, which makes this less of a deal. If I were looking to add something in that cool maroon color to my collection, I would consider it.

I literally just ordered a red Ladybird last month, and Mekanisk just announced that after this round of Ultrahot Red Fjell, the color will no longer be produced. So I have to weigh the options here.

Honestly what’s making this one so hard for me to resist is the solenoid; I really want something that goes whap whap in my collection.

I do like the look; very much reminds me of original Game Boy cartridges, and of course the early PC era.

While the design clearly references old cartridges, particularly that of the OG Game Boy, it’s also simple and geometric enough to come across as nothing other than a pencil tray with era-appropriate accents.

I also do love the look of the lock light cluster; pretty classic.

That shipping is a big oof though.

Yikes, $75 shipping? Didn’t see that. Man, if this was around $300 I’d do it, but with shipping it’s over $400 and that just seems too high. I’ll probably regret not getting one. That red is really nice and vintage looking to me.

You should find yourself a Saturn60 and put a solenoid in.
A fellow swede did this :ok_hand:

BTW, just watched badseedtech’s review of class80 and I’m not impressed. Sounded like the solenoid couldn’t keep up.
