Interesting Finds & Heads-Ups

This person just did an amazing job putting some of my favorite switches through their paces. I didn’t realize interference was still a thing, but after watching – I can concur the KTT Strawberry’s do smack a bit on a ePBT set I’ve been using as a daily driver.

The background music is fun. Lol.

Did you guys see the spring on the Pro Silvers? Geez. Thoughts on those btw would be most appreciated.

That’s interesting. I have GMK caps on mine so I’ve never noticed. Are your switches led holes North or South?

I originally threw them in a north-facing tester and immediately noticed the interference on R3 and was a little bummed. I thought the poles on those were going to be long enough to sort of sneak by this issue, but oh well.

Today, I have them in a Cascade PCB and the stepped caps (north-facing) does feel and sound like it binds at times. I just tested with a H1 and had no issue. Weird.

More and more manufacturers make switches with long poles but I don’t like that solution, it makes the stabilizers wobbly.

Agreed. I usually rely on really tight keycaps and making sure they’re seated … perfectly.

It sure does. I love my short-travel switches, though - so I find these things indispensable for mitigating that wobble.

They’re intended to help with North-facing interference (ostensibly for regular-pole switches), but they’re also great for safely shimming stabilizer stems when you do have long poles or otherwise shorter travel switches.

Cherry is releasing a tenkeyless version of their Stream scissor switch keyboard soon.

I know this site is predominately about mechanicals - but I also enjoy a good scissor switch.

I think this is as good or even better of a deal (25% off). These DCP caps are pretty darn good. They’re fairly thick, pretty good printing, smooth, and my kit doesn’t have any warping. I recommend, if you like either of the colorways

Are long pole stems just becoming a hot trend that was possibly started by pandas? I personally can’t stand them when they clack on the bottom out. The plasticky CLACK that’s a significantly higher pitch than the return hitting the top of the housing makes my teeth chatter LOL. I took my pandas apart and used the housings for something else.

I did end up giving long pole stem another chance by getting some Bobas U4T’s and the pitch of the bottom out was much closer to the pitch of the top outs to the point that they and enjoyable sound.

I know sound is subjective but I’m super skeptical of long pole stems unless I was looking for clack.

Yes! That’ what I love about my bluish whites and Gateron inks. The shorter travel. I just which there were more 3.5mm total travel switch options.

Gateron Ink Yellow, Ink Kangaroo, Box Ink Pink & Black.

Yep! And I’m a “tactile guy” but my box inks are the first linear that I have liked and it’s probably because of the shorter travel. Most linear feel as though my fingers are “falling” through the board and it takes effort to “lift” and move to the next key. Inks ramp up in much faster in pushing against my fingers so they don’t feel that way.

Some new Tecsee HPE switches; same material as those pricy-but-pretty Pistachios from a while back:

It doesnt mention travel distance on drop but aren’t tecsee switches generally have short travel?

It doesn’t mention travel like most vendors would, but it does mention stem length; I actually see 3 different lengths there. Looks like the “Sun” switches are standard, both “Stars” and the “Cloud” linear have travel reduced by 0.5mm, and “Cloud” tactiles have it reduced by 0.9mm.

Was poking around the NK site and saw something kind of interesting;

They have some left-over RandomFrankP editions of the NK65EE listed for $195 - but interestingly enough, choosing the Midnight Jade instead of Silk Emerald option takes off another $80!

Huh. Neat. :camera_flash:

Equipped with longer-than-normal poles for tactile action and stratospheric travel, this switch will give your keystrokes a depth and focus fitting of a journey above the clouds.

What does that even mean? It could mean that it has a really short travel or a really long one LOL.
