Interesting Finds & Heads-Ups

I’ll have to admit, I didn’t even know that GMK offered dye sublimation. That’s pretty cool. I wonder why we have not seen it before?

GMK makes the whole keyboard assembly for that machine including the PCB which has a CLPD controller and MX Black switches.

I did more research and while the specs say dye sub they are actually double shot!

So we have a new doubleshot font option! I bet thr prototypes were lasered not dye subbed they switched to doubleshot.

From the product forum:

We have ordered 500 Keyboards from GMK

The final keyboard revision has a major improvement over the pre-series one.

While most modern keyboards have the letters printed onto the keycaps and our pre-release version had this as well, we can now announce that the final revision of the MEGA65 keyboard will have the letters on top of the keycaps layed in . (just like the C64 had as well).

For this we are producing our very own keycaps with moulds we especially produce for 2k injection moulding.

(double shot keycaps).”

I love this, but I’ve never seen this before.

Then I found this!

Then I found this.

I suppose it’s not too far out-of-line for a limited production piece of technology, but hoo-wee would I have to love the hell out of it enough to lay down that many currency units.

KAT WoB double shot PBT in stock

Novelties and accents designed by biip

I’m gonna give it a try. The thing I like least about my KAT set is the dye sub. Double shot would be a nice change.

There is a second kit on their site with different accents, called CANDY. PBT Double shot but different color accents.

Free shipping to most areas, too.

Oh, and Keyreative now selling direct. In case you didn’t notice

Oh, and check out this video. Neat:

Which color are you guys getting? I still don’t like that screen button, but curved MX PCB is too cool to pass up. Time to put your uniform profiles to work. Maybe that’s how I’ll determine the color. Which uniform profile caps do I have that I want to use on this board?

Oof - I super want one - but I’m already over-budget on monolithic retro TKLs. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m gonna go with the industrial grey myself when I can order mine (hopefully next week, but with the decent amount of time this is running I may wait a little longer to stash some more loot for it). The Mopar variant industrial Model M SSK is my holy grail Model M so a chance to recreate it with modern MX internals to good to pass on for me. Either color will be a banger though, the only thing I don’t really like is the gawdy chromed out bottom which is thankfully optional.

I wonder what sculpt keycaps will feel best with this board. Original IBM caps are kinda like a tall version of GMK R2. Actually very close to the same shape as SA R2 but, of course, not spherical. So, the original curve takes into account a keycap leaning slightly away from the user. I guess we’ll have to get them and try out some stuff!

I love it. I’m puzzled because it mostly sold in the US so shocked there are fans of it in China. Not complaining!

Found LMK21, a CNC Aluminum numpad with supposedly via support, on AliExpress. It looks decent and the price is on the lower end

Oh I’ve been looking at these! I can’t decide if I want WOB+extension or doubleshot dark KAT Milkshake that is supposed to be coming out…it would be my first KAT set! I know they are so different but I feel like I need to limit myself to one or the other for some reason

I’d say go with the one that will look best with the keyboard you plan to use it on.

I’ve always found black to be slightly more versatile than white when it comes to keycaps.

But that’s specific to my collection.

yeah I’m thinking about dark Milkshake, so it’s between black and navy which makes it harder (for me anyway)! My boards are pretty neutral too, so I’m weighing color palate with the accents and font/mod symbols…to make it harder, I have a WOB and navy set in other profiles. Oh well, I look forward to your pics of the set!

I’m not sure if these are on your radar, but both sets below are doubleshot and in stock. Being GB extras, they are a little pricier than the kat sets you are looking at, but they are also more unique colorways (granted, they may not be your jam at all).

Rainy 75 is up on Kickstarter. It feels like this will be the year of budget aluminum keyboards if they continue to come out as fast as they did last year
