[GB] the Norbaforce Mark II

This is why I hate Shopify. That VHS unit in stock is actually currently reserved and can’t be purchased if you were to proceed to the checkout, yet it is teasing everyone by suggesting that it is—and there is no way I can circumvent this beahvior. My apologies. I do hope to have a few more Mark II units soon though, including VHS. I have the parts in hand on site and am just waiting for them to be assembled.

Haha, I’ve been trying to checkout that VHS unit all day. Excited to hear there may be more coming through, i’ll be keeping tabs on that page for sure

Hey, reviving an old thread – how do they feel when they’re fully cured? Soft?

This may be a weird question, but can the Keybrief TKL case hold a veracity steel Norbaforce? Dimensions wise it should be no problem, but the entire keyboard is a solid 9.5lbs and I worry about the weight. Was debating picking one up primary for safe storage rather than transport.

Also has anyone refinished their veracity steel case? I was mulling over the idea of going with a brushed stainless finish but didn’t know where to start in terms of sourcing the service.

Cool idea! Maybe Ryan can consider a future run with a brushed surface versus the polished.

Unfortunately, I think the linear pattern of a brushed finish doesn’t work very well with curved 3D surfaces. It works better on flat faces and sheet goods, because you can’t have all the brush lines going all in one direction as you go around corners. It’s not impossible, but it’s definitely more tricky to get to look right than something like a brushed plate.

Would it be possible to do the top surface in a brushed finish and leave the sides in polished? I think it would be a good compromise as the top gets the most exposure, at least in my setup.

Theoretically possible, yes, if you have a perfectly planar way of applying the brushed finish, but I imagine it would be tricky to keep the intentional scratches from “spilling” over onto to the radiused edge if you were doing it manually with something like a drum sander or an even more manual method.

Oh, yeah, that weight shouldn’t be an issue at all. The bags are absurdly over-designed.

That’s kind of what I was thinking. I’m going to leave it be and if nothing else maybe approach something like a nice bead-blasted finish all around or a funky powdercoat. The great thing about the case is that it can be constantly refinished.

Saw this in my Reddit feed today and was so confused. I was certain this was a close up shot of the VHS finish with extra contrast. Nope. It’s ice on Mars.

Whoa. That really is quite an accurate facsimile. :astonished:

Absolutely thrilled to have grabbed a VHS Norbaforce today during the restock! Glad to see a few more units come out of the woodwork!

Thank you so much for supporting it!

I know I’m woefully behind demand for the Norbaforce, but I’m doing what I can to make them available.

For those wondering what the context is: I just restocked a handful of Norbaforces today, which I announced on my email list. Most are gone already, but I do have a couple of VHS ones left.

Whew! Managed to grab a K2. I have been pining for one of those for ever since I saw one at the Norcal in 2019.

I’ve been thinking of ways to ease myself into my first Mini-USB keyboard, and was wondering if anyone had tried something like this as an adapter for their USB-C cables? It would be cool if I could theoretically leave this little thing in the back of my Norbaforce when I switch between keyboards with one USB-C cable. Wasn’t sure if there was any dangers associated with using something like this.

edit: I just read that the dongle doesn’t have keyboard/mice support. back to the drawing board!

I’ve personally had mixed results with those adapters from my experience. I found the easiest way to get around it is by getting a custom cable done by someone like Mechcables with an aviator/XLR quick disconnect connector, and purchasing both a USB-C and USB Mini end cable. This way you just get the best of both while only needing one cable on your desk running to your PC.

ah, that’s a great idea. dunno why i didn’t think of that-- thanks!

I took your advice- Mechcables ended up shipping out my cable next day, and it arrived in anticipation of my VHS Norbaforce! I tried my best to come up with a combo that would work with the VHS pattern - not exactly it, but close enough I think.
