Agreed this almost made me email to see if I could get my enigma black order switched over … but now I am having a real Jekyll & Hyde moment as I wonder whether to pick up two more in Aperture and K2.
Odd question here, but are Norbauer housings offered in raw aluminum, no polish or powdercoat? I have a pair of Genelec speakers in raw aluminum finish and love the aesthetic. I also understand one-off requests like these can hinder operations and aren’t always feasible.
I’m going all in - my Hasu BT controller USB port finally bit the dust. It still charges the battery, so using it fulltime as a BT keyboard, but no data anymore, so have a new Type C controller waiting on the new case. Also have a brand new set of Deskeys domes waiting. Debating on rings + gasket, but I’ve never been one to be finnicky about the reduction in travel the rings cause.
There’s a couple options, but I went with Hasu’s controller (because I’m lazy), which is already offset so no modification is needed to use it.
The other controllers have daughterboards available that you can use to make them Type C, but if you use them as is, they’re usually too low and the stock ABS case will need some modification.
With Deskeys’ long-awaited MX sliders just around the corner, can you please consider making an HHKB plate with cutouts for the stabilized keys?
Without the cutouts, left shift and enter MX keycaps hit the plate on the way down. I’m sure some people plan on drilling holes into their plates already, but that can be a little scary because of how expensive it is.
Heh, that’s an old photo of my HHKB that keeps popping up
Having drilled the HHKB I’m typing on now, which is the same HHKB as pictured, I can tell you that having a separate plate to drill will be MUCH easier than modding the top housing like I did all those years ago. Funny enough, HiPro sits on my HHKB pretty much permanently, so the mod is no longer in use…
If I were to mod a plate, I’d put some ink on the ends of the sliders to mark where they hit the plate, and then make industrious use of some calipers to make sure everything lines up properly.
Anyways, a lot cheaper drilling out the plate than the HHKB housing, which has no replacement parts. I wouldn’t worry too much about doing it. Measure 18 times, drill once. Which I didn’t do, and why the holes are kind of oval shaped
Whoa, didn’t even know those are coming. They are on the deskeys site now. Doesn’t look like they offer anything for stabilized keys yet though, or am I missing something? Seems like an insta-buy if I can get a full mx set for my heavy grail (despite having hipro now and kbdfans “hipro” coming “soon”).
