Thanks for the reminder! Just ordered one. I’m assuming it will have no compatibility issues with the Heavy-9 sub-PCB?
Per the GH thread for the hasu controller the footprint looks identical. The installation guide for the hasu controller on the same thread confirms the footprint is the same.
Been waiting for this forever, thanks for the heads up.
Absolutely! I too have been waiting quite some time, glad others can share in the excitement of them being available. Looks like only 2 are left in stock as of writing this. The time is now if anyone wants a hasu controller for their fc980c.
My two FC980M ISO (blue and red switches) waiting for their Heavy-9. (veracity steel and white). Can’t wait!
I agree with Ryan that the red switches in this board are soooo good.
The Steelseries Apex Pro TKL still has the smoothest switches I’ve ever experienced, but only a few of the keys feel «perfect», while most of them have various quality issues, so nowhere the overall quality of the FC980M. But if someone made this kind of switches available for custom keebs then that would surely one-up Topre.
I’ve searched high and low for iso fc980m’s with no luck. Nice boards!
Thanks. As I’ve found out, they no longer make ISO boards. I bought them both used. And both like within 2 minutes after the ad was posted with no haggling, just "I’ll buy it and I’ll [our version of Venmo] the money straight away
If I can’t get another one with red switches I’ll probably make a hotswap version of the one with the blue switches. I even bought the first one before I know it was compatible with the Heavy-9, luckily that turned out pretty great!
I have a FC980m at work with MX Blacks. I haven’t seen that thing in months…
admiring the insanity of those shift keys. L shift is 1.25u?
Yes. But for ISO users this is perfectly normal. It’s also the natural resting place for left pinky so I can assure you that this is not a problem:)
But I’ve always wondered, why give such prominence to the pipe key? Wouldn’t it have made more sense to put the pipe key further out of reach than the left shift?
You ISO users pipe a lot?
Grew up using ANSI, but have gravitated towards ISO once getting into this hobby because, due to the way I learned to touch type, I rarely use left shift. I generally only use left shift for commands and combos. ISO gives me an extra key.
This unique position preempts controversy during IC on whether it should be alpha, mod, or both colors
It’s only in Nordic regions that the pipe key is beneath the ESC key. Personally I feel that this is the only right place for the pipe key but ymmv. I don’t think we use the pipe key more than other people, but when we do, we like to hammer that sucker🤡. It does feel just as satisfying to «hammer» that pipe key the same way you hammer that ESC key.
Those 6X% keyboard that remove the f-row might pose a problem for some nordic users since now the ESC key is also the the pipe key but you can’t just «hammer» that key anymore but have to push FN+ESC to get the pipe. (I just bought a FC660M Nordic ISO so I guess I’ll find out soon)
In Germany the pipe key is bundled together with the more/less key (depending on shift), probably using ALT/ALTgr. Very, very disturbing.
Speaking of which, I do sometimes wish that the Nordic layout should have had separate keys for more/less (the «extra» key beside left Shift) instead relying on the Shift modifier.
On Nordic Macbooks the pipe key is ALT+7, which is borderline batsh*t crazy and useless as the Mac specific FN+Backspace for delete. Though, the new M1 Macs are so good that I might put up with all that.
My FC980 with MX Blacks arrived today!
Hmm…I still have to get used to the MXB’s, because boy are they heavy. It’s like training—After typing on them this afternoon, no joke, my typing speed casually went up by 10 wpm when I switched back to my 45g Topres
MX blacks are way to heavy for my fingers.
Perhaps this is ironic: Although I’m a light typer, I’m finding these quite pleasing. As I’m acclimating to the MX Blacks, it feels more and more like…a bungee cord? I’m reaching the actuation point, but I’m not bottoming out much (if at all).
But they are mad heavy and, perhaps, that much more fitting (thematically) for the imminent Heavy-9
Just saw this. Another thread on this forum indicated “yang” made keyboard controllers and that there was one available for the fc980m. A quick Google search yielded the result above.
Has anyone ever ordered from aliexpress?
I doubt the Bluetooth connection is worthwhile in a Norbauer case, but the controller seems to have programmability which has me interested.
Edit: this controller seems to have the same footprint as the stock fc980c controller, so that is yet another bonus. Very tempted to order one…
Let me know if you get one as I am struggling to get a battery for this as its hard to find a 2pin 3000mah battery on ali express.
fwiw I found mine on amazon. I actually don’t know now if it was 3000mah but they certainly had loads of them.
