Meh. I had better experience buying from SPRiT than Thic Thock which hasn’t shipped Marshmallow switches I ordered more than a year ago.
Sorry to hear that …
Just sharing. Mauves’ sound is not one of my favorites but, PCB-mounted, they sound a lot better. Loud like Cherry blacks but softer bottom-out sound.
I found my Gateron Yellow springs hiding among a batch of springs I removed from another keyboard. They stand out because they’re longer. Putting them into recently polished Cherry blacks for extra bounce.
My experience with Gateron Yellow linears was only with stock, unlubed black housings.
I had them in hotswap along with Aliaz 70G, and they were surprisingly similar. I can’t remember offhand which felt heavier, but they definitely offered a similar experience.
I found that the Yellows were just a little heavier than I would like. They typed a little slower than I normally did, and were a little fatiguing long-term during gaming, although they offered a consistent and responsive keypress.
I found myself wishing for a “Gateron Clementine,” between a Red and Yellow in weight. Gateron Yellows are said to feel as if they are a 65G slow curve spring, so I was wanting a 62-63.5 “Gateron Yellow.”
Those Thic Thock DL springs, if they resemble Gateron Yellow in shape, could be interesting for tactiles. Maybe that’s why they’re in the new RARA switches [RARA V2 and Shogoki]. Gat. Yellow is said to enhance tactile bumps. So you could get something like a lighter [63.5] Gat Yellow spring in RARA V2. Could be interesting.
Ultimately, I found stock Yellows boring, and didn’t end up using them. This was before I started lubing switches. They make a lot more sense lubed, but I mainly wanted a spring weight in between Gateron Red and Yellow.
Yeah, they’re a little heavy for me too. So I ordered some lower weight 16mm springs from TX. 57g, 60g, and 62g to find out what my long spring weight is.
Gat. yellow springs are noticeably heavier at the top than regular springs, heavy enough to use 63.5g regular springs for weaker fingers. Keeping track of which key has what is going to be a source of headache but at least it feels more comfortable.
Broke out my NOS green alps board today and hit my personal best for speed on monkeytype.
Green alps are the linear jam, man.
Besides that, I’m still loving everglide corals. Love the spring weighting. But they need films.
Love me some SKCL ALPS too! I got a batch of greens I’ve been meaning to clean out, but haven’t cause I linearized a pristine batch of SKCM oranges I had & they ended up being super smooth. That’s what I built my Raven up with & definitely concur, I type just a bit faster on the linear ALPS than any linear MX switch. Why, who knows, but light linear complicated ALPS do jam for sure!
With extra bounce from Gat. Yellow spring seem to make typing more fun if not faster. Only a few hours using them so consider it just a gasp of joy.
Just hit 169 with 97% accuracy on monkeytype for time 15.
currently typing on Diamond pasted Cherry bottom, Gat black stem, and Gat milk top with TX long spring 65g.
The spring is pretty good, I’d prefer something JUST a little less than this for tactiles, but for linears I think this is the perfect weighting.
I’m so glad that I bought the Long version over the Short, I’ve heard nothing but praise for these Long springs, and I’m definitely having a great time with them.
That’s awesome man. I’ve found 65/67g TX springs to be my favorite for linears so far. Both the 14mm and 16mm TX springs feel different to me than most springs – they feel at rest when you get to the bottom instead of feeling the potential energy to spring back up like a Tealio spring for instance (the 16mm feeling a bit more of that weight up top). It’s hard to explain, but they have an experience like a tactile switch in that regard when you push through to the bottom. On a side note, the 62g 16mm TX spring that I’ve put in my Bobas and Kiwis, feel really good.
Received and tested 16mm long springs from TX Keyboards’ US store.
Their bottom-out weights match other vendor’s bottom-out weights. They are very slightly yet still noticeably heavier at the top, just enough to feel bouncier. I’ll have to use a full-board to confirm but long springs could very well be my favorite springs for linears.
I think 62g long spring is my ideal ‘long spring’ weight, at least among what’s available at TX since next level up is 65g. 62g is gamey but still less stiff at the top than Gat. Yellow springs.
I also ordered some TX long springs, they are supposed to be “progressive” (at least are marketed as such), but I kind of doubt that…š
Can you comment on how do they compare to the regular springs with the same weight?
Also, any ping?
no, they marketed as “slow curve” springs and not progressive. as donpark said, they slightly heavier at top.
These should be marketed as slow curve and not progressive, it is a mistake of the vendor.
I ordered some of these to
no pings while testing but I’m not a pingmaster so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Since I’ve missed the JWK train, what’s available these days so I can try 'em?
